Virtually all "protein bars" on the market today are made with soy protein. Many infant formula products are also made with soy protein, and thousands of vegetarian products (veggie burgers, veggie cheese, "natural" food bars, etc.) are made with soy protein. That soy protein is almost always described as safe and "natural" by the companies using it. But there's a dirty little secret the soy product industry doesn't want you to know: Much of the "natural" soy protein used in foods today is bathed in a toxic, explosive chemical solvent known as hexane.
To determine the true extent of this hexane contamination, NaturalNews joined forces with the Cornucopia Institute (www.Cornucopia.org) to conduct testing of hexane residues in soy meal and soy grits using FDA-approved and USDA-approved laboratories. The Cornucopia Institute performed the bulk of this effort, and NaturalNews provided funding to help cover laboratory costs.
The results proved to be worrisome: Hexane residues of 21ppm were discovered in soy meal commonly used to produce soy protein for infant formula, protein bars and vegetarian food products.
These laboratory results appear to indicate that consumers who purchase common soy products might be exposing themselves (and their children) to residues of the toxic chemical HEXANE -- a neurotoxic substance produced as a byproduct of gasoline refining.

Hexane is a commonly used solvent for seed oil extraction. It’s non-carcinogenic. Chief toxic effect is nerve damage in those chronically exposed to 400 ppm or more.
If you eat soy by the pound, 8 hours a day for a few years, you probably have more to worry about than Hexane poisoning.
yeah I know. after spouting off I did some googling. See my post 39 ;-) Found myself quickly WRONG!
The Romans killed themselves with lead in their dinnerware.
It’s astounding what we are putting into our bodies ‘on purpose’
You are so right Texan Tory, that is the problem, it’s very hard to eat in america without eating that crap, call them “food like substances” for the most part, but they are not food, they can sit on shelves for decades and still be eatin’
To be honest, most of those recommendations are valid for avoiding, red meat, okay, I’ll give you that one, but he says so for a reason. It’s a lifestyle change, tell you what, buy CALM magnesium and start taking it, heart blockage is coming from this crap, you can do things to prevent, but better still is avoiding them. Heart attacks are going to common for 30 and 40 year olds who are being born now ... We have let the food industry turn our food into poison, and now they buy the soy from china, good luck with that ...
Very interesting. Thank you very much. I am interested in all ways I can keep my family TRULY healthy. It’s sad that even thinking FReepers often stop thinking when it comes lunch time and fill themselves up with things that don’t deserve to be called food. But then again, it is a FRee Republic. And as long as people KNOW that what they are doing is bringing closer the day when cancer or long term chronic illness is in their lives, they should be able to do so.
Soy is a scam anyway. Don’t eat it.
All that health food is crap. Health foods and vitamins were just a run-up to the global warming insanity.
Just look at the prices, and you have to know it’s a fraud.
We’re all gonna die.
Pass the Hydrox cookies, please.
Can’t eat pork - swine flu
Can’t eat chicken - bird flu
Can’t eat beef - Mad cow disease
Can’t eat veggies/fruits - pesticides
Guess we’ll just have to play it safe and stick with chocolate.
No need for hexane at all.
Take wheat, grind it into a fine powder commonly known as flour. Use no modern chemicals, use only a mortar and pestle. Grind it very, very fine.
Take a handful and toss it up into the air in a closed room above a lit candle.
Oh, BTW — make sure you have medical insurance and your will kept up to date before you do this.
seems like freepers equate this to environmentalism or something
Yup - this is about the last place you would want to post something like this — unless just for kicks.
Quick, raise more taxes before the crisis ends...
The whole food industry needs to be cleaned up, from top to bottom.
My grandfather used dihydrogen monoxide to kill cats.
BTW there is only one more step needed to be taken to convert soy cheese and margarine into plastic. I'll eat God made food.
I already knew soy was bad for boys but I just didn’t think about protein bars!! Yikes. (Oh, and it is also bad for girls — they do not need to start their periods any earlier than they already do!)
The obvious solution is to declare hexane to be "natural" (isn't everything natural?) and be done with the hysteria.
Yes, I suffer from Morgellons disease which I believe is caused by massive chemical toxicity. I am 90% better now by doing things like NAC (and amino acid) and avoiding exposure of these toxic foods, why do you think Lupis, Chrones, ALS, MS, CFS, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes and on and on are on the rise, and dramatically so?
We eat food like substances, not food, high fructose corn syrup involves mercury in it’s production and so on, all this adds up, your body cannot digest the little real food in the food like substances, there are no minerals in it, you are running on suger basically, and full of systemic candida. I have turned the corner on all this, of course, around here that makes me a fanatic, but so be it. I went from sure death (almost bed ridden) to very good health with all natural products. Still have much work to do though ...
Time to switch to the rice burgers and rice milk.
Really want to get worried? Go out there and type in fluoride - it’s in our water, our toothpaste and isn’t healthy AT ALL! Something I read said that in the 40’s (before fluoride in water/toothpaste) only 1 in 600+ children were autistic - since fluoride - it’s 1 in every 166 children. Pretty fascinating reading - especially reports on youtube.
He is right about everything on his list except meat and milk — they should come from grass-fed cows, and other meats and fowl should be organic free ranging.
