Powell to Rush, Cheney: Room For Me Among 'Emerging' Republican Party Posted by David Beard, Boston.com Staff May 20, 2009 06:27 AM

Colin Powell issued a sharp rebuke last night to Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney for trying to exclude him from the backbiting Republican Party.

Before some 1,500 business leaders in Boston, as well as Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and wife Gisele Bundchen, the retired general and former secretary of state spoke openly of the dispute roiling the Grand Old Party after election setbacks and polls putting its popularity at roughly one of five Americans.

"Rush Limbaugh says, 'Get out of the Republican Party.' Dick Cheney says, 'He's already out.' I may be out of their version of the Republican Party....

Why would the Republicans want an open traitor in their organization?

Because the suits running the GOP hate conservatives as much as the 'Rats do.

We need a new party.

You were a pretty crappy general, too.

Who is Powell?

Is Powell the racist who betrayed his “friend” McCain in order to support a Democrat-socialist because said socialist had the proper amount of melanin?

You have that right. There is no room in the Republican party for for both the Constitution and Mr. Powell. I choose the Constitution so it is time for Mr. Powell to leave.

And their opinion regarding public policy matters exactly why?

I’m distressed that no talentless thespians were there to give their unique and treasured insight.

I’m hard pressed to understand why he thinks he’s in the Republican Party. Supports Democrat policies and endorses Democrat candidates. I’m not sure what else one would have to do to be considered a Democrat.

He voted for Obama. What Republican would do that? He’s absurd; more poppycock from a vain beauracrat.

I guess you could have some of Powell's positions and still consider yourself a Republican. But, you can't make a statement that says "American's want higher taxes and more government in their lives", and still call yourself a Republican without the room bursting out in laughter.

But, with Powell's latest statements, I can't think of a single issue in which he sides with the GOP on traditional Republican positions. He's pro-abortion, pro-Affirmative Action, pro-gun control, pro-tax, pro-spending, didn't like any of Bush's SCOTUS picks etc. etc. What else is left? I wish someone would ask him precisely what issues he does agree with the Republicans on. My guess is that list would be much shorter.

Once again, McCain was the perfect ‘Powell Republican’ and he endorsed Obama.
The ‘progressive’ Republican members such as Powell are should be loving the economic results from the election of Obama.
