Lykkebak's representative, Marti MacKenzie, said the attorney withdrew a motion filed in 2007 that prepared the groundwork for a possible insanity defense in Nowak's trial on battery, attempted kidnapping and attempted burglary with assault charges...

Dirty diaper clean up in aisle 3. Diaper clean up in aisle 3.
Ah, the famous Diapergate!
My understanding is that fundamental part of the ‘insanity’ plea is that during the commission of a crime; the person didn’t realize what they were doing was wrong.
So, while I don’t support this plea; I understand that it’s purpose is for those emotionally-blinding points where a person commits a crime they would normally never consider (ie. come home and find spouse in bed with lover).
Somehow, going on a cross country drive, singing along with the radio, wearing diapers to bypsss a restroom appears more of a cold and calculating intent; not a blind rage of jealousy.
Why don't they simply leave her alone? After all, someone as dangerously stupid as James Hansen is still on NASA's payroll.
Sorry, both GUILTY!
I'd have to disagree with you. Most rational peole woud know that there would be places to relieve yourself on such a trip. The only reasoon to prepare yourself not to have to stop is obsessiion, which is a psychological issue. I can't see how this woman did not have psychological issues.
I would blame the guy for making his joy rod happily occupied by diddling with two (or more) women!
Women being upset when they find out they have competition(s) tend to be somewhat aggravated at the news that they’re not number one on the romantic list!
Let her go and arrest him!!!
Why don’t they simply leave her alone?
No way! She is an active duty Sailor and needs to be punished for many changes against the UCMJ. If not jail time, I want her stripped of her benefits. She did a really stupid thing and needs to be accountable for it. She was a Captain for God’s sake.
Then, by this standard of measure; anyone who stalks and kills someone is merely ‘obsessed’. She knew she what she wanted to do was a crime; she chose to do it anyway.
A scientist would realize that a ‘window of opportunity’ existed; so she created an alibi before she left which would give her ‘x’ hours of accountable time. You then drive non-stop, commit your felony and return within this ‘window of time’. Air travel is not possible, due to ID checking. Train or bus schedules were thrown out at well. Driving is anonymous.
So, chose a mid-point place to visit and rent a hotel there for the night, party with some friends. Drive straight through to target area, kill woman, pack her in trunk of car, on your drive back to mid-point, find some lonely stretch of road with a swamp full of aligators and drop off your victim. You arrive at your destination in a time frame that makes it plausable that you drove from home to this mid-point. So, in this case, make hotel reservation in New Orleans. Drive Houston to Florida, commit crime, drive straight back to New Orleans and spend night in Hotel, ring up tab in hotel bar. Viola, your stone cold alibi.
Obsessed? Maybe. Determined? Definitely.
Or to decrease the likelihood that you would be seen.
