"The mayor said the assistant principal, Mitch Wiener, may have had pre-existing health problemsbut on Friday, Wiener's son Adam said his father had only suffered previously from gout, which he said was unrelated to his current condition. He said his 55-year-old father is now suffering from pneumonia, kidney failure, dehydration and a lung infection. "I don't know where people got that," Adam Wiener, 23, said Friday morning as he prepared to return to the hospital where the family was keeping vigil. "The only pre-existing condition he has is gout, which is unrelated to complications he's experienced now." Click on link for rest of the article.

Iirc, it was Boss Bloombergh who saith the poor man hath manifoldinous health problems.
“Adam Wiener said his father had been sick since at least last weekend with flu-like symptoms “but we didn’t think anything of it.” Then early Wednesday, he said, the family called 911 after his father began “hallucinating and wasn’t coherent.”
I find it interesting that the MSM always makes sure they say anyone who has died from H1N1 had “preexisting conditions”.
Everyone has “preexisting medical conditions” in one form or another.
makes you wonder how many of the other stories have false info
Always and ever, in general. On the Flu stuff? Google would know best.
Is it common for people who die from the regular flu to have kidney failure?
I know Legionaires diseases effects the lungs and kidneys but I didn’t think flu effected the kidneys...unless maybe it is a systematic organ failure.
I'm not trying to berate the guy, but if he knew the flu was a possibility (NY schools have had outbreaks)...why not get to a doctor within the first 24-48 hours of symptoms and get on an antiviral like Tamiflu? It has proven effective in other cases.
56,000 people died of flu in 2006, and not all had pre-existing conditions. You can die from the flu (any flu) without having a pre-existing condition.
Frankly, I do not agree with the contention that a disease that can kill some shouldn't be feared by all.
You don't know you're gonna' die from it until it hits.
Near panic is called for in these cases, but counseled, of course, by appropriate prophylaxis.
Notice that this particular school has SEVERAL HUNDRED kids with this particular flu - not some other flu - and the assistant principal is near death.
It's a killer and we're not done yet.
Gout and gout drugs can cause kidney failure. Could be a drug interaction problem. Trouble with one case, it’s not much statistically. Google, however would know what symptoms people are dialing up.
I hear you got yourself a swine flu ping list.
Would you add me please.
Thanks
For one, most physicians are not prescribing Tamiflu unless the patient is serologically proven to have mutant H1N1 flu. There are only about 100 million courses of Tamiflu in the US, half on pharmacy shelves and half in stockpile at the CDC. If everyone with the sniffles gets Tamiflu, there won’t be enough to treat the really sick people.
it is feasable that the man had pre-existing that he never told family about or maybe it was underlying that even he did not know about.....
This flu isn't 1918, yet, but the govt people are being totally disingenuous with their public responses to how many people are sick and how sick they actually are.
Cept if they wait too long, the people will die... if this gets bad this fall or next year, this will be Obama’s Katrina X 1000.
It’s hard to get tamiflu. We thought my daughters were exposed to swine flu earlier this week, and I have 2 high risk daughters. I could only get tamiflu for the one with asthma, but not for the one with epilepsy. I also could not get it for me, and I have asthma. They said they’ll prescribe for me if my daughter gets sick.
The flu that the girls were exposed to isn’t swine flu, but it’s strange that there is so much flu going around at the end of May. Flu season is over, but 10% of their class had flu on Monday.
You are on the list!
ping...
There’s another report out today that the CDC is seeing more seasonal flu then usual. Why??? That’s what is going around at my kids’ school. Why now?
Something very strange is happening and I’m not sure what it is.
I have been following this VERY closely, and haqve been sick myself with a respiratory thing (last time this sick was more than 20 years ago- I dont get sick anymore... started May 1 still dont feel well). A niece (8 yrs old fever, cough) and nephew (14 yrs old vomiting) were both sent home this week from school. I have heard of other people being sick here- the one thing I recall that people have mentioned in regards to Wall Street is lack of sunspots or something... Weather here was cold through April and had frost this week... I hope your family is OK and this all goes away.
