Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will direct his administration to send 5,000 layoff notices to state workers Friday, according to a source familiar with the governor's budget plan.
The Republican governor plans to eliminate 5,000 workers by the end of June, ..

How about another 5000 next month? And maybe 10,000 the month after that!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this an attempt to make voeters vote YES on his initiatives May 19th—well it does not sway me vote NO and do not lay of the workers Fire them and get rid of the open positions.
5000?...thats not even a flea sitting on a hair on the back of the elephant. They could fire 500,000 and NO ONE would ever notice.
“. . .and, surprisingly, not one of them was a personal friend of the Governor.”
“Keepz youz friendsz closez andz firez youz enemiez” he was heard to mumble while walking his wife’s dog.
Are these Union Workers?
As would I. Man what an awful administration...
Do you realize that if the Republican Party leadership had gotten behind Bill Simon, most all of this could have been avoided? That’s rhetorical...
The guy almost pulled it out, with almost no federal or state leadership help.
What do you call 5,000 layoff notices to California state workers?
5,000 layoffs!
Must be summer and these are all snow plow drivers.
Reagan wasn’t perfect as Governor but some good things happened in this state too under his leadership as well as the nation later on.
aRnold IS no Reagan. Thank goodness he can never be Pres_ent like another foreigner in chief. ;-)
Which unions?
Wait until the SEIU and AFSCME get into action. They’ll have Obama demand the Governator not layoff any unionized employees lest they want to forgo billions in “free” stimulus money from the benevolent federal government.

I would say I cannot wait until this slime of a state collapses, but I know in my heart it’s not going to be allowed to happen-somehow. EVERYTHING that’s bad starts there and spreads to the rest of the country like a giant cancer.
I have no more love for Bill Simon — he was one of Arnie’s most ardent supporters.
How many are illegal aliens?
5,000 is only about 1% of the total employees (see numbers I just posted).
Let’s start with 30,000 (or more) now and go from there.
LMAO
The guy almost pulled it out, with almost no federal or state leadership help.
That's charitable. Rove put Parsky in position to force Simon to take Wilson-Jones and Ed Rollins. It was the kiss of death.
One can forgive that as party loyalty. I don't see it as his preference. Giuliani on the other hand...
