Napolitano Pulls Right-Wing Extremism Report
The Washington Times ^ | May 14, 2009 | Audrey Hudson

Posted on 05/14/2009 10:31:48 AM PDT by conservativegramma

A contentious "Rightwing Extremism" report that warned of military veterans as possible recruits for terrorist attacks against the U.S. was not authorized, has been withdrawn and is being rewritten, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Capitol Hill lawmakers.

"The wheels came off the wagon because the vetting process was not followed," Ms. Napolitano told the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday.

"The report is no longer out there," she said. "An employee sent it out without authorization."

The report was shared with state and local law enforcement officials nationwide via the department's internal Web site on April 7, angering Republican lawmakers and military veterans who said it unfairly stereotyped veterans.

Ms. Napolitano did not say when the report was taken off the "intel Web site" and all Homeland Security Department Web sites, but she said it is in the process of being "replaced or redone in a much more useful and much more precise fashion."

Department of Homeland Security - either one of Bush’s big shortfalls of judgment or evil necessities of the political time.

This reads to me like she will be Obama’s Supreme Court Justice nominee.

Me too. That's why she's withdrawing the report now, a month after the fact and blaming someone else for submitting the report in the first place. She doesn't want this report to come up during her Senate confirmation hearings.

Beyond coincidence.

In a sick way, we're glad to see the whole country gets to deal with Napolitano. It used to just be an Arizona thing but nobody would believe us.

What a crock!! An unauthorized employee sent it out? That’s just raw sewage BS. It had approval all the way up.

Yes a month later, after she first defended this bogus securoty document. This report was a reaction to the "Tea " Parties. They played their hand too soon.

And now she wants to make sure they bury their lefty analysts far from the eyes of the public.

We need to get the provenance of this report. Who wrote it, the team that supported it.WHat each persons role was, each persons political background etc.

This bogus report needs to be investigated as a " SECURITY BREECH."

Republicans and Veterans should be demanding an investigation into how patrioitic American citizens of the conservative body politic were summarily defined as "the enemy."

"...it's that we the people got to see what you think of us."

Withdrawing the report or rewriting it changes nothing. That this bunch of useless bureaucrats believes it, you can take to the bank. Worse, the Feds are planting the seeds and encouraging the same attitudes at the state and local levels (e.g., see the MIAC Report).

The political elite, especially the Feds, feel threatened. This has led them to make a number of similar mistakes over the past several years, usually having to be explained away and/or withdrawn later (e.g. the Phoenix FBI pamphlet) when the heat becomes too intense.

Tyrants seldom give up power willingly. And they always become more oppressive.

B!tch should stand down or be removed from her position. It happened on her watch. PERIOD.

That would be nice. However, I've noticed that power is the one thing that libs will hold onto with all their might.

"An employee sent it out without authorization."

So, the Director of Homeland Security has no idea what's happening (supposedly) in her own department.

Nice...
