If the Republican Party thinks it has problems now, just wait. The partys poor performance among young voters in the 2008 election raises questions about the long-term competitiveness of the GOP.
The millennials the generation of Americans born between 1982 and 2003 now identify as Democrats by a ratio of 2-to-1. They are the first in four generations to contain more self-perceived liberals than conservatives.

“If the Republican Party thinks it has problems now, just wait. The partys poor performance among young voters in the 2008 election raises questions about the long-term competitiveness of the GOP.”
Hmmmmmmm...I think I’ve heard this before...
I don’t know if I would have ever considered myself to be a liberal but when I was 20something I was certainly more liberal than I am now.
No point in taking the party to the youngsters if it turns them off when they grow up.
“the generation of Americans born between 1982 and 2003”
We don’t appeal to 6 year olds? We didn’t promise them the right toys in their Christmas stocking?
More MSM drivel!
Daily Kos poll? LOL
Only 9 percent of millennials polled expressed a favorable opinion of the Republican Party
I don't have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, but it doesn't mean I want it to become more liberal. Sheesh!
Morley Winograd and Michael Hais are co-authors of Millennial Makeover: MySpace, YouTube, and the Future of American Politics.
ROFL. I should have read that first.
To quote Margaret Thatcher - “the facts of life are conservative.”
“I was certainly more liberal than I was now”
Me too. When I “matured” and started paying taxes, I realized how much money the government was demanding of me and wasting.
Younger people are more liberal, you say? Surprise, surprise. After decades of government schooling, television, and immoral popular music, what do you expect?
Well Duh. They go to schools that teach liberal horsecrap by liberal Union teachers . What else can be expected.?
This all happened after MTV became a defacto Black Entertainment Television (BET) network.
There is absolutely no way that conservative values can or will be embedded in younger voters or minority populations. You cannot create an immediate comprehension of American history or politics in a voting cohort completely ignorant of our past and the American Constitution. Anarchy will come, but not because of a ideological struggle, rahter it will be over identity politics and every man for him (or her) self.
1. Baby boomer SS
2. Obama's deficits
I'm thinking that some of the brighter ones might become receptive to a conservative message.
The not-so-bright ones are probably liberals forever.
The GOP also needs a hearing aid to hear the sucking sound of conservative Reagan Democrats who see their jobs exported. GOP leadership only has ears to hear liberal moderates.
4 years of unemplyment under barry will fix that!
2003? So six year old kids identify themselves as Democrats?
Wait’ll this bunch get older, start paying taxes and having to find decent schools for their own kids. We’ll see how liberal they are then.
My daughters, born 1984 and 86, do not identify as Democrats, or liberals, I assure you.
Could we stop talking like its 1980 folks?
Although i think this poll is BS, I do think it is time to stop letting ourselves be defined by others in an extremely negative way. Hillary was right when she talked about the ‘politics of meaning’. She just had the wrong meaning in mind.
Freedom, self-determination, the opportunity to follow your dreams and shape your own life based on your efforts and abilities, rewarding innovators whose ideas shape the future, etc. These are all fresh ideals that are consistent with, and best represented by the middle and right. They are not new ideals, but they remain fresh because they are inspiring and appeal to the spirit within people that makes them want to reach out and be more than they could imagine.
That’s what we need to sell. The left is pushing a very stale platform based on the idea that we are better off living like the Borg. They are only being successful at this point because they have a good propaganda machine, and we have let them define us as many things that we are not.
I’m in my 30s now, but when I was in my early 20s, I was fairly liberal in some ways. I guess that Churchill saying has some merit. I wouldn’t stress too much.
