Unmarried mothers gave birth to 4 out of every 10 babies born in the United States in 2007, a share that is increasing rapidly both here and abroad, according to government figures released Wednesday.
Before 1970, most unmarried mothers were teenagers. But in recent years the birthrate among unmarried women in their 20s and 30s has soared rising 34 percent since 2002, for example, in women ages 30 to 34. In 2007, women in their 20s had 60 percent of all babies born out of wedlock, teenagers had 23 percent and women 30 and older had 17 percent.
Much of the increase in unmarried births has occurred among parents who are living together but are not married, cohabitation arrangements that tend to be less stable than marriages, studies show.
The pattern has been particularly pronounced among Hispanic women, climbing 20 percent from 2002 to 2006, the most recent year for which racial breakdowns are available. Eleven percent of unmarried Hispanic women had a baby in 2006, compared with 7 percent of unmarried black women and 3 percent of unmarried white women, according to government data drawn from birth certificates.
Titled Changing Patterns of Nonmarital Childbearing in the United States, the report was released by the National Center for Health Statistics, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Out-of-wedlock births are also rising in much of the industrialized world: in Iceland, 66 percent of children are born to unmarried mothers; in Sweden, the share is 55 percent. (In other societies, though, the phenomenon remains rare just 2 percent in Japan, for example.)

Not lack of resources, absence of a father - that’s what has a HIGH correlation to criminality.
No I meant: lend me a hundred dollars you gringo.
They do have pre-conception choices though. If they want a choice in the matter, they need to prevent conception.
So, what is the solution?
Agreed. Thanks for the clarification.
Stop replacing the husband with government.
Remove the alleviation of consequences for choosing to have children without a husband.
Not to rebuke too firmly, but a conservative should know this as a matter of basic ideology.
Now, implementing the removal of welfare, housing subsidies, etc... that’ll be a political challenge, to be sure.
Fixed it.
For God’s sake, Aquabird, why dont you just go join the f’ing Taliban/Al Qaida ??? After that ran, no decent conservative American woman would want you. All I see in your words is “its da wimmin’s fault!” as if the only GOOD woman is one who calls YOU perfect. Sorry. You f’ing ain’t. Ever. Why arent you perfect? Cause youre HUMAN. Stop trying to put yourself on the same level as God and you might actually FEEL better...
“They do have pre-conception choices though. If they want a choice in the matter, they need to prevent conception.”
Sure men have three.
Women have 10 - 15?
Do you think if there was a depo shot for men or a male birth control pill that unwed births would still be a problem?
“And start holding women men AND women accountable.”
“Fixed it.”
No you didn’t.
You jumped right back into the feminist’s arms.
We are already holding men accountable....in fact men have no rights and all the responsibilities.
For example.... a wife can get pregnant and go have an abortion w/o her husband’s approval.
Or she can cuckhold her husband w another man and her husband will be financially responsible for the other man’s baby!
Besides all the tax payer funded birth control, education, and welfare that we dole out to the women and not the men.
So it’s time for the women to be held soley accountable.
Stop paying them to be whores and pimps and you’ll see this lunacy slow way down.
Sure I get the conservative ideology behind your post.
But the real world is not always in step with conservative ideology. In real life what do you suggest if a woman is pregnant and single? Do you want the government to step in and take the child? There’s always going to be women who get pregnant outside of marriage. So right now today, what do you think should be the real life fix to your statement.
(I’m not talking about baby factories who do it for welfare purposes, I’m talking about your general statement of “if a woman makes choices leading to having a baby without a husband, she is intentionally raising a criminal.”)
So is your frustration that there are not more choices for birth control for men or that they don’t have the final say if they choose to not use birth control and a woman gets pregnant?
(I’m just trying to understand where you’re coming from before I answer further.)
The way such a thing used to be, and should be, handled was through the family, and failing that, the church would step in and help.
The government stepped in and replaced/removed the role of the family and the church (I believe this was the real intent).
So, no, I DON’T want the gov’t to step in and do anything. That’s why we have the problem.
I’m not a fan of illegitimacy by any means, but population “recruitment” by native-born children, even if they are “bastards”, is preferable to population growth via immigration from nations with questionable values, whose people may be loath to assimilate.
“So is your frustration that there are not more choices for birth control for men or that they dont have the final say if they choose to not use birth control and a woman gets pregnant?
(Im just trying to understand where youre coming from before I answer further.)”
Fair enough.
The answer is all of the above and more.
Besides the aforementioned injustice, I resent the lies and the hypocrasy.
Like I said before, this is a $16+ Billion dollar industry based on injustice to men....
Check this

And there are stories of “duped” dads who have to pay child support to the “real” dad.
All so the govt can make money off of it.
Sorry
Here is the link to the Time article that mentions the guy from Michigan who has to pay child support on a kid that isnt his to the kid’s “blood” dad.

So do you pay an unfair child support amount?
Nope.... not in that world.
But I dont sit back and smugly go “ Well it’s not me.....”
I think there are outrageous examples of justice denied on both sides.
I do think the man has the final say on preventing pregnancy, and until there’s a way for the man to carry a child, the woman gets the final say on having the child.
“I think there are outrageous examples of justice denied on both sides.”
How so? A man cannot force a woman to be a mother. So how is any injustice being done to women?
“I do think the man has the final say on preventing pregnancy,”
Nonsense. The woman does. In fact with 15 different birth control options available to women it’s the woman’s call.
In fact unless a woman insists on birth control, it can only be surmised that she is trying to get pregnant on purpose.
“and until theres a way for the man to carry a child, the woman gets the final say on having the child.”
Fine. Since you want to hold the child hostage for ransom in the mother’s womb. Let the woman be totally responsible for pay for the child.
With total right I grant total responsibility.
You know it’s funny.... woman state that they shouldn’t be forced to carry a child they dont want for nine months, but then they have no problem forcing a man to pay child support for up to 33 years for a child he didnt want.
How fair is that? To the man and to the child?
