Benedict Arlen Learns That Traitors Never Prosper
Pajamas Media ^ | May 9 | Pam Meister

While contemplating his move from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party, Sen. Arlen Specter was promised not only that he would be allowed to keep his committee assignments, but that he would keep the same level of seniority as though he had been first elected as a Democrat back in 1980.

Sorry, Arlen. Only real Democrats get to be senior committee members.

Complaints by rank-and-file Democrats prompted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to go back on his word and Specter is now the most junior Democratic member of the five committees on which he serves: Appropriations, Judiciary, Veterans Affairs, Environment and Public Works, and Special Aging. Apparently the seniority question will be revisited after the 2010 election.

Specter is far from being the first side-switcher to be treated thusly by his new teammates. Benedict Arnold, a brilliant officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolution, became bitter because he felt he was not promoted quickly enough and for being court-martialed and found guilty of using the army for his own personal reasons...

The new back bencher ... where he belongs. Hopefully he’ll be cultivating his home garden after the 2010 elections.

Couldn’t have happened to a better Traitor. Wonder how he likes not getting supported in his primary.

Pray for America

I don’t know what is more delicious here — the democrats openly caught in a lie (again) or the fact that lie totally screws specter and basically undoes his entire career.

I think we should send packages of Junior Mints to Spector's office -- you know, to congratulate him on his clever career move.

If you do that send to his local office in PA. Congressional mail is irradiated and I’m not sure how jr mints stand up to that.

To clarify, I mean mail sent to Capitol Hill offices is irradiated.

Yeah, wouldn’t it be cool to see him get a few dozen, or a few hundred, or a few thousand boxes of JUNIOR Mints in his DC mailbox? lol

No they didn’t.

But then, Jeffords defection gave the Democrats a majority.

True I guess, but the point is less about sending Spector an edible snack and more about letting him know that we are delighting in seeing a turncoat get his just desserts.

I’m thinking if it makes a complete mess, it may get removed before it gets there.

I doubt the irradiating would make a mess, but it would be interesting to know the general policy regarding food items. Would candy make it to a senator’s office or would it be stopped at some point? Of course, at the end of the day it’s not even that the mints would need to literally land on his desk, just that he would need to know that they had been sent. Like if he got a note from the mail room saying Senator Spector, we’ve got about 300 boxes of Junior Mints waiting for you down here if you want to pick them up..

He could have ended his career with a bang. I am a realist. I know that most politicians are by nature at least capable of duplicity. Many are like teenagers they will try to tell the truth but when it comes to it they are willing to shade it just so.

Kid wants the car to go out and knows there are only so many places his folks will allow him to drive at night. He suddenly becomes very religious. He starts attending youth group on tuesdays. He goes in - says hello to everyone finds out what they are going to be doing and then makes his excuses about having a big test and leaves.
He and his buddies then go have a couple of hours of fun. A couple of beers and some pool at a friends. He is home by 11:00 PM his curfew. Mom asks him how youth group was and he proceeds to tell his mother who was there and what they did.

Did he lie? - No - Was he truthful? No-he was able to shade the truth enough to placate everyone.
That is how honest politicians are.

If Arlen Spector would change back today and in return he will vote for every conservative issue and against every issue that is big government then I say welcome him back.

I have no illusions about politicians the best we can hope for is to keep them so scared that they know if they vote for bigger government or against states rights or even mention a new program they will be defeated.
