ARCADIA, Mo. — A 3-year-old boy was found in remarkably good condition Wednesday, 50 hours after he wandered away from his home and became lost in the rugged hills of Missouri's Mark Twain National Forest.

Joshua Childers slipped out of his family's mobile home near Arcadia in rural southeast Missouri around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Thanks for posting a story with great news !!!!

My parents lost my brother a few times on the farm.....He was always “exploring” the farm with his cat and his wheelbarrow......I think no matter what parents do kids curiosity gets the best of them and off they go.....

My wife has had to lock down the grocery store and Target because my son has run away from her. He thinks it’s funny whereas his 10 year old sister still needs to act like a Cling On with her mother....

I’m trying to keep my guy riding in the cart as long as possible for that very same reason.

in a loud large family this sorta thing can easily happen with adventuresome little boys in particular

or even infants.

My aunt and uncle had been visiting grandparents and the eight younger siblings over the holidays with their three boys under the age of four. They often traveled during nap or in the evening. About an hour from grandma's, auntie turned to the oldest in the back seat and said "Cover the baby up for me please"

The toddler's reply "The baby didn't come home with us!"

Sure enough he was left sleeping on grandma's couch getting much attention from his numerous kinfolk.

Joshua was wearing a T-shirt, a pull-up diaper and sneakers when he wandered from his home Monday morning. Later that day, authorities found one of the sneakers near a pond.

By the time Halpin found him, Joshua was wearing only the shirt and one tennis shoe. He was also wet.

Halpin said he didn't have any water but gave the child some candy, called 911 to let authorities know he had the boy, then took off his own shirt and wrapped the child in it and carried him about a half-mile to a house. A woman at the house fed Joshua, gave him milk and cleaned him up.

Joshua didn't say much except that he was thirsty, Halpin said. But after two nights in the wet, chilly woods with little to wear, Halpin said the boy wasn't crying or complaining.

"He hung on to me pretty tight," Halpin said. "Outside of a few scratches, he was in really good shape."

Probably the hounds couldn’t find a scent after all the rain we have had. It might have washed away his presence. That cold rain on his bare body would have been terrible.

That’s one tough little kid!

Possible career paths include the Navy SEALS or Army Special Forces.

Being the grandparent of an extremely precocious three year old grandson, I can certainly understand the warm fuzzies this story creates.

We've had ten straight days of rain here in Arkansas as well.

So even finding his shoe a mile from the house wouldn't have helped if the dogs couldn't pick up the scent from the rain? Interesting.

I am very happy for the parents and the three year old’s brother. Nice ending folks...

Separation anxiety is one children’s biggest fears. I am always amazed when I see a child that doesn’t have that type of inclination.

Might I suggest childproof door locks...
