Baldacci Signs Same-Sex Marriage Into Law
Portland Press Herald ^ | 5/6/09 | Matt Wickenheiser

Posted on 05/06/2009 10:04:05 AM PDT by steve-b

Democratic Gov. John Baldacci today signed into law a bill allowing gay marriage, making Maine the fifth state to allow same-sex marriage.

The governor's signature came barely an hour after the measure won final approval in the state Legislature, with a final 31-8 vote in favor in the Maine Senate.

Baldacci said in a statement that while he has opposed gay marriage in the past, "I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and ofequal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage.

"This new law does not force any religion to recognize a marriage that falls outside of its beliefs," the governor said. "It does not require the church to perform any ceremony with which it disagrees. Instead, it reaffirms the separation of church and state.

"It guarantees that Maine citizens will be treated equally under Maine’s civil marriage laws, and that is the responsibility of government," Baldacci said....

I wonder if the homosexuals realize Muslims hate them...since our nation and many others are turning to a Muslim majority soon, wouldnt they be afraid of making a sort of roll of participants in every state so easy for future use? I dont think they see whats coming and it wont be from the Christians...we will probably be hiding and protecting them out of our love of Christ. I just had this revelation today when a friend sent me the statistics of Muslim population and their strength.

Good point, but if homosexuals could see the forest for the trees, would they be engaged in that “lifestyle” in the first place?

"Behind every lie or conspiracy theory there's a little bit of truth to make it believable. I think there are people out there with cash who have the same motives as the Bilderbergs. They may not be as big,.... but........I believe they're out there, and it's not always the cash that gets things done."

On that we absolutely agree.

I am not saying that there aren't an elite with great power who work behind the scenes to try to manipulate us. I know that they exist.

A friend of mine who worked at a fairly high level of a previous Presidential Administration once said to me, "I love people who say that they don't believe in conspiracy theories. The only thing that you can be absolutely sure of about them is that they have never worked for government!"

I am just saying that Freemasons today are about as "dangerous" as members of your local Elk's Club. The idea that they are some "great power" is pretty laughable, because they are mostly a bunch of middle-class, old men in walkers today who couldn't convince their own sons and grandsons to even join them so their organization is dying out. They don't even have the power to do that.

Maine has an initiative petition process as does Massachusetts and a number of other states.Hopefully this issue will make it to the ballot there. In Massachusetts, the perv lobby has succeeded in keeping it off the ballot...most certainly these efforts are the result of the fact that poll after poll show that it would lose convincingly here. However, the perv lobby is *very* strong in Maine,so.....

Yeah. I'm afraid so. They're biting the hands that will eventually hold them.

*sigh*

You are right. The back door is more frightening than what is in front of us. I think you know what I mean. It is time to get out of debt, put money aside and start loving thy neighbor. I will try and put the web site to this frightening video.

Just curious, how?

Maine has a People's Veto process - no law takes effect until 90 days following the Governor's signature. If a certain amount of signatures are presented to the Sec. of State prior to the end of that 90 day period, then the implementation of the law is stopped until a November ballot vote - we get a chance to turn the law down, whatever the morons in Augusta say.

"Gays" have always had the right to marry. But why would they?

They don't like the opposite sex.

The Church was right not to annul the marriage. Henry was validly married—he was just a bit of an ass.

While I think what you are saying is said in jest, there is absolutely nothing positive about gay marriage. A broken clock is right twice a day, and even the Islamofascists nutjobs are right on rare occasion, this being one of them.

Amen. Amen. Absolutely, and there IS a big difference. I have learned so much about God these many years and only wish I had been taught this as a young person. I don’t think our churches do a good enough job - I really don’t; and parents are often just as clueless.

I think that book is a bit, shall we say, simplistic.

I’ve read up quite a bit on the homosexual lifestyle desperately trying to understand. Many of them have been sexually abused - many. It’s not simple - not at all. Many are hurting and in pain and it’s a lie from the pit of Hell that they “are gay.” I really think Satan blinds them and they think because they have those thoughts they are “it” but it is not so.

"Maine has an initiative petition process as does Massachusetts and a number of other states."

Funny thing is, that after all this gay legislation passing in New England while California passed the "marriage only between a man and a woman" State Constitutional Amendment, I wonder if East Coasters will still continue to refer to us in California as "The Left Coast"?

Baldacci signed this without cameras or media present, so that tells you about his bravery doesnt it?

It seems like very few congressmen or senators in Washington have anything to say about gay marriage. There was zero comment from Obama or anyone in Washington about the Iowa court decision, or the states recently passing or considering gay marriage legislation. I think they want to ignore the issue.
