Jeb Bush, GOP: Time to leave Reagan behind
washingtontimes ^ | Sunday, May 3, 2009 | Joseph Curl

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it's time for the Republican Party to give up its "nostalgia" for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election.

"You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don't like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that," Mr. Bush said.

The former president's brother, often mentioned as a potential candidate in 2012, said President Obama's message of hope and change during the 2008 campaign clearly resonated with Americans.

"So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the [Republican] messaging. I mean, it's great, but it doesn't draw people toward your cause," Mr. Bush said.

Can anyone identify the problem with about 50 percent to 75 percent of GOP politicians?

The problem is, I've just realized, that they should be democrats.

They are the prime reason that the American people elected a communist non-citizen rather than another repugnant RINO!

On the contrary. A lot of people were intimidated into voting by MoveOn and ACORN. If they didn't fill out the paperwork for Oboma, they were "Racists."

Imagine being a non voter and having one of these freaks at your door pushing you to vote for Oboma. If you refused, they hassled you for being a racist. Rather than deal with their threats, you sign the papers just to get them away from your house.

The MSM 's affirmative action and the threats of "racism" got Oboma elected. If he weren't black, he wouldn't be there today. He was elected because of the color of his skin.

In my opinion, the RINO McCain could have won - not that it would have made that much difference. Sara would have put him in the White house, though.

Well, as I like to say, Reagan himself wasn’t REAGAN until he became president. We just need a reasonable candidate who can rise above what the media thinks of him or her, who will step up and TAKE that prize. Nobody is going to give it to them.

I’m more and more convinced, these people SHOULD be democrats. You know, I might be able to have a modicum of respect for the democrat part if these were the kind of people running it. Or Evan Bayh — there are only a few respectable demrats left. These rinos should join them and bring some sanity. I’m serial.

what we need is a new mouth piece.....not another bush, or romnney.......we need someone like obama....only a conservative....someone who can verbalize our conservative principals in a new language (ie change worked for theOne) and shed the image of old boy network (I am sure that all those who voted for theOne were expecting change, just not this change)......in other words, we need to toss bush, romney and anyone else who represents the establishment so that we can shed our old fart loser image....and move back into the White House.

Reagan is one of the most popular presidents in American history.
Why? He said government was the problem. He didn't have to say anything else to win. He spoke to the American majority.

The Pubbie Party should never bring up Lincoln or Reagan!

They should always refer to Ford, Rockefeller, Dole, McCain to show they have a Big ‘ol tent!

They see the country as a huge Washington D.C. They feel the people should bow to them, their power, and their privilege. They've lost touch with the people who pay for their luxurious lifestyles.

What they're doing is herding cattle. They've been in politics too long. All the politicians in Washington have. Even Obomas wife is wallowing in her newly acquired gold and silver - and she's only been there a few months.

CONSERVATISM SELLS! Too bad the GOP is too stupid and corrupt and self serving and in favor of big government to figure that out and win with it anymore.

Stupid, corrupt, self serving & bought & owned by the lobbyist. That's our government & don't think a few Teabaggers will change that. This corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" will only do the will of us conservatives when we physically get in their faces & disrupt their lives. Doesn't take much effort to delete our E-Mails.

So, the adults shall no longer have fun like a playful kid. Forget sex, that’s for people less than 30. Don’t exercise, that’s something athletes do. Don’t learn, only young adults have time for that. Forget freedom, it’s just too damn hard. And that guy Reagan, that was a fairy tale...

No, Mr Bush, let’s not think about the Reagan era, it obviously represents a way of life far beyond our capabilities. /s

Hi everyone, I am a conservative living in Alberta and I have been watching American politics for quite some time now. As some of you may know, Alberta is the heart of the conservative movement in Canada. Our voice always seemed so small in Canada as the majority of the population lives in Ontario and Quebec. The eastern Provinces ALWAYS voted Liberal (like the Democrats) and the West mostly voted Progressive Conservative (like the Republicans). The East won the Federal elections time after time after time because of the higher population (higher population=more seats in the House). This pained us and frustrated us to no end. We would turn on our TV’s at 8:00pm (that’s when voting ended in the West, voting finished in the East at 6:00pm)and find out the election was already over because Quebec and Ontario voted Liberal again.

Now for the good part and to show you there is still hope for you (not Obomination type of hope but the real stuff)...

After suffering 11 years of Liberal Majority rule and the introduction of programs like; Long gun Firearms registy, no limits whatsoever on abortion, Young Offenders Act was introduced which allowed young people to getaway with murder...literally, gay rights crap, hate crimes laws, systematic destruction of our military etc...conservative, family minded people finally had enough.

Our Progressive Conservative Party had compromised so much that they now looked like the Liberal Party. In fact there was almost no difference at all (a bunch of RINIO’s as you like to call them). A Conservative movement was started out West called the Reform Party which was later called the Canadian Alliance. When it went Federal, it joined with the Conservatives in the Progressive Conservative Party. The new conservative party is now called the Conservative Party of Canada.

Well, to make a long story short, we finally won a Federal election with a minority government. People in Eastern Canada were still unsure so they forced another election and we won a stronger mandate although still a minority government. In time I believe we will have a majority again and then we can make some real, principled, conservative changes in Canada. Our population is beginning to see what a bunch of ass-clowns the leftists in our country are.

The good news for you is that Obama won the last election which “outed” the RINOS in the Republican Party. There is now a grass roots conservative movement all across the states. I believe you do have to abandon the Republican Party and start a new political party that has the voice of the people. Right now you don’t have a voice but those NEW leaders will rise up and already are. Forget the current bunch and don’t depend on them. The new conservative movement in the States will be strong and not watered down to please the media or the special interest groups.

Hang in there and don’t lose heart, if it happened in Canada, it will happen for you too...only in a BIGGER way!

“We view ourselves on the eve of battle. We are nerved for the contest, and must conquer or perish. It is a vain thing to look for present aid: None is at hand. We must now act or abandon all hope! Rally to the standard, and be no longer the scoff of mercenary tongues! Be men, be free men, that your children may bless their father’s name”

Not sure who wrote that but it was one of your guys, I love it and have it hanging on my wall in my office.

This country’s essential strengths are two: First, our belief in a superior being from whom flows our inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Why anyone would be comfortable with these rights flowing through human beings is beyond me.

Second, our country is strong precisely because it was not ideologicaly. The beauty of the Constitution is that it provides a framework for governance that allows for maximum human freedom to grow personally, spiritually and materially. Specifically, it protects individual as opposed to group rights. And, most important, it deliberately limits government to specified activities.

Now the ideologues are trying to take over. They believe their master, Marx, provides the way to societal well being by limiting individual freedom. In short, Marx is about the group and the US Constitution is about the individual.

Once again the Bushes come out of the bushes and reveal themselves to be what they always were, are now, and always will be - a sneaking, slithering mass of New England Yankee Limousine Liberals.

100 years from now, historians will remember the achievements of Ronald Reagan. They will give Bush I a footnote, remember Bush II as the man who lost America, and they won't have anything to say about this non-enitity.

NO MORE BUSHES!!

I don’t disagree with a single thing you said, except I DON’T think that was what “Jeb” was talking about.

Like his father and brother, he is a globalist whose allegance to America goes no further than his investments.

Is it too difficult a concept ... to take Reagan's ideas and make they for NOW? If a candidate uses the same model effectively ...meaning he/she has to be a great communicator, seem sincere, intelligent, informed; and not be an old, weak, pale, white haired man who has been too much time in Washington and part of too many scandals based on corruption.

Lives there such a person?

Yes ... there are a few: in my mind, Sarah Palin has what it takes.

We observe the democrats/liberals must think so too: because they scorn her in some way on several regular daily TV shows and news broadcasts.

She is a force to be reckoned with (in their estimation) Of course they say the exact opposite.

The Democrats have something all right. It’s called communism.

Reagan type thinking is exactly what we need to fight it.

Apparently the quote is from Sam Houston. I thought it might have been from Henry V myself.

You may very well be right. But it would seem that the libs in the GOP can still be squeezed off into the party that more accurately reflects their views - the Democrats.

If Snowe, Collins and a few others join Spector, the Republican Party can become that “new party”. If not, you are correct, and only a fresh new party can free America from the servile leadership of the Boslheviks in the Democrat Party.
