Jeb Bush, GOP: Time to leave Reagan behind
washingtontimes ^ | Sunday, May 3, 2009 | Joseph Curl

Posted on 05/04/2009 4:20:21 AM PDT by VU4G10

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it's time for the Republican Party to give up its "nostalgia" for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election.

"You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don't like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that," Mr. Bush said.

The former president's brother, often mentioned as a potential candidate in 2012, said President Obama's message of hope and change during the 2008 campaign clearly resonated with Americans.

"So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the [Republican] messaging. I mean, it's great, but it doesn't draw people toward your cause," Mr. Bush said.

By all means, let’s have the conservative movement invent some sappy, empty phrases — like “Hope” and “Change” —
that the ACORN morons can get a grip on and they’ll flock to the GOP.

Here are some that might work:
WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS IS MORE BUSH!
A CHICKEN IN EVERY POT.
2 CARS IN EVERY GARAGE.
A FREE LATE-TERM ABORTION FOR EVERY UNWANTED PREGNANCY.
A GAY BABY-SITTER OR TEACHER FOR EVERY CHILD.
FREE MONEY FOR EVERYONE.
DEFICITS ARE OUR FRIEND.
MORE LIKE THE DEMOCRATS THAN THE DEMOCRATS.
WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS IS MORE MUSLIMS.
KISS A TYRANT — KICK AN ALLY.
A FREE ILLEGAL HISPANIC HOUSEBOY IN EVERY HOME.

Yeah, that’s the ticket. Let’s hurl ALL the traditional and time-tested values on which America became, in under 2 centuries, that shining city on a hill, a beacon of freedom and a world leader over the side to appeal to the ravening masses of MTV, VHI, government school indoctrinated imbiciles that ACORN inticed to the polls with a pack of smokes and a pint of Ripple.

Sound like a HELL OF A PLAN TO ME!!!

Feel free to add YOUR suggestions.

These people need to go back to the democrat party and try to effect some change THERE so that the rat party becomes a party for the middle class again, and not just for radical communists. The REpublican party needs to get out of the business of liberalism and start offering a real alternative.

And let’s add folks who refuse to support a photo i.d. requirement to vote to the list of “morons”, shall we?

Jeb Bush, GOP: Time to leave Reagan behind

It's time to leave the GOP behind.

If I wanted to vote democrat - I'd vote democrat.

I vote Conservative, period. Anything else is self defeating.

It looks like the Libertarian party is going to be big in 2010 and 2012.

I don’t see any where in any election how Reagan’s idea failed. I see many elections where Republicans however failed Reagan’s ideas.

Adding more to that is fine. Taking away from it, not.

It’s amazing, you never hear a Democrat trash FDR, HST or JFK or their policies but it you put a moderate RINO near a microphone he will repeat verbatim the MSM bilge about Reagan and conservatives and trash them.

If indeed this is all we have to look forward to the Republican Party is DOA. I have voted Republican since 1984 casting my first vote, but no more if this is all there is. Is this all there is???????????????????????

I have repeatedly heard the MSM and the big tent RINO’s bleat that we need them. Here’s a news flash McInsane and Jeb, try and win without us! You tried it in 2006 and 2008, how did it work out for you boys???

Reagan called the government the problem. Reagan called the evil empire, the evil empire.

That IS hopeful. Conservatives who pretend we can all hold hands and do a sing-song, traipse-along into the White House are idiots, and that includes Jeb Bush.

I reluctantly voted for the second Bush -I regard political dynasties or families as dangerous to the nation.

We don't need another Bush in the White House.

Negotiations schnegotiations. McCain (with Palin running public interference for him, remember) would promise, and deliver, a veto. Americans would be intensely angry at the Congress so we would still get the Tea Parties. But we would be without the rest of the Rat Ship of Fools that passes for an American administration today.

He sullies tradition by lamenting it as nostalgia. That’s code for trying to sell socialism as Republicanism, idiot. If you don’t understand that, you are going to be fooled over and over and over again.

You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something.

Yeah. They ran as conservatives, you idiot!:

Tax breaks
Cutting government waste with a "scalpel"
Faith
Marriage
Eliminating social programs that no longer work

(The MSM hid the liberal issues behing their iron curtain until after the election)

Imagine if Reagan had picked Jack Kemp instead of George HW Bush. Imagine how different history might be.

So, this is to people who accuse us of worshipping Reagan. He wasn’t always right, but he always stuck to his principles and values. That’s what we’re missing today.

To Hell with the Bushes and the neo-cons!

They are the prime reason that the American people elected a communist non-citizen rather than another repugnant RINO!

I'm F***ING dreaming.

A “Listening Tour.”

Republican leaders talk like Democrats, they govern like Democrats, and now, they campaign like Democrats.

Adios, GOP.

You can commit suicide on somebody else’s dime.

The article is worth reading and has good content, unfortunately a really poor title.

Yes, the ostensible Obama ratchet to the right. Which proved to be nothing but unicorns and fairy dust. Why isn’t Obama getting bawled out now over that bait and switch? Not a PEEP!
