Maybe worse than the first Camaro wreck is the first Chevy Camaro breakdown. This "p**sy magnet" Bumblebee-yellow Camaro lost all electrical power and coasted to a stop with a scant 40 miles on the odometer.
The ecstatic new owner, a forum fan-girl by the name of BUMLB, was crushed when the car conked-out cruising through a parking lot at a leisurely 5 MPH, completely losing all electrical power, locking the gear selector and the key in the ignition. A flatbed towed the disabled car to a dealer where diagnosis found the cable running from the trunk mounted battery had frayed on the starter motor and grounded out, causing complete loss of power. A new cable running a different route will be installed at the dealer. Hopefully this isn't something we'll be seeing more of on other cars. [Camaro5]
Business as usual for GM, then.
It’s failing to deliver on its promise and crapping out early - let’s rename it the Cabama.
'67 to '69 Camaro's rock. The 2nd body style was FUGLY as hell. But as nice as the Gen 1's are they are still a distant second to the Barracuda, still the baddest ass muscle car, by far:
[Fun? Perhaps. Perform better? Not unless you managed to stick an IRS under it or only drive it a quarter mile at a sitting.]
Tell you what. Let’s come back thirty years from now and see which car is still on the road, a new Camaro or my 1967. Let’s also see which one is worth more.
I guarantee I will still be able to get parts and do the repairs thirty years from now while the new cars will have been already melted years before.
I also have a ‘57 Bel Air, same thing there.
I wish I still had my old ‘70 model Camaro. It’s been gone for over 20 years and I still miss it.
Fraying cables on a car with 40 miles on it?

Depends on if he’s restoring to stock, or doing a resto-mod. Sounds like the latter since he talked of addressing the brakes.
Okay, so Barracuda’s aren’t so bad either.
Sounds like some good ol Harley Davidson engineering!!
Also, I don't think this has to do with the engineering, but it's pathetic for winter transportation in the snow belt.
I was watching Mechum Auto auction the other night.
A hemi ‘cuda 1970 IIRC , premo, sold for....$166,000 !!
Early second gen Camaros were beautiful, 70-74.
Yeah, the Cudas and Challengers were sweet, too bad they rusted in the showroom or there would be more of them left.
You mistake me - I am not a Camaro fan. :D
I’m a Jaguar fan. I hate stick axles. :D
wow, I SOLD my ‘67 Camaro exactly 34 years ago. not one of my better decisions either. good luck with the resto FC.
The third generation fix will be greasing the pads and rotors.
I bought a 1967 SS 350 in 1970 . Took a lot of abuse ( I was 18 ) . One fault I recall is that the 67s tended to rust around the rear window chrome strip and eventually water would start leaking through causing a flood in the trunk on rainy days . You have this problem ?
It will be a resto-mod in the sense that it won’t be stock but I’m not doing anything super radical to it. I’m doing things like replacing the body bolts with stainless steel, making sure everything is coated to prevent rust, well built 350 and a turbo-hydro 400. You really have to do the brake upgrade to disc.
I guess my point is not so much that a ‘67 will perform better, but that it can be repaired and configured the way you want, unlike the modern wonders. I’m just buying Classics in the future - no loss in value, repairable, and cool as hell for the same money.
The Zeromaro?
Fourth gen fix will be to replace the discs with drums.
