I’m not scared, but I’m profoundly bummed.

My country is changing in two fundamental ways:

It is becoming a socialist nation. Since this will be socialism on the largest scale ever tried, the fallout from the inherent unsustainability of socialism will be particularly dangerous-—however it is manifested and reacted to.

It is becoming not only “not a Christian nation,” but an anti-Christian nation.

With universal health care, for example, we will become the abortion capital of the world, all paid for by our tax dollars. Abortion will be actively promoted by the federal government (”us”) as a way to contain welfare costs, since many children are born directly into poverty in successive generations.

2010 is one opportunity to provide a little bit of a pushback, but without a true grassroots revolution at the ballot box, 2010 will be just a blip on the screen.

Those who said “so what, Obama will be 4 and out” were, as I have repeatedly said, crazy. What the Rats, especially unopposed, will accomplish in one year, never mind four, eight or sixteen, will NEVER be undone, any more than LBJ’s legacy in creating the welfare state and perpetual ghettos will ever be undone.

I think all we can do is what you are already doing - contact your state legilators, talk to friends, etc. and hope and pray that come 2010 there are more of us than there are of “them” and we can vote the idiots out of office.

It’s IS a very scary thing to think about - especially for people who are not well - or who have diseases that must be managed ie: diabetes, ms, lupus, cancer, arthritis, etc.

I shudder to think what will happen to me if, in the middle of a “mad muscles” flare, I can’t get in to get a shot.

We need to tie these bastards in with communism - which is exactly what it is, whether they think so or not - as well as fascism (communism lite). Really show people what that leads to. Forget Britain, or France, which are “lite” versions from resting on laurels of past glory. Show them films of NAZIs and Stalin and Lenin and the butchery as well as long lines trying to get basic items, etc. Have real people who actually lived under these regimes come on and tell us how Dem’s ideas ARE communist, and they fled communism. Etc, etc, etc. Make immigrants like that the focal point; they can be found (ask a friend of mine who has cousins from Russia who are outspoken on that). They should be telling people about the difference. Put them on The View and put those apologetic morons to shame.

“In a democracy, the people know what they want and they deserve to get it, good and hard!”

What the Dems don’t understand is that we are still free people. That is until they implement a police state, cause that’s what it’s going to take to get us all to ‘cooperate’.
There’s always another system available! You just have to ‘network’ to find it.

Thanks for posting—I have been trying to get fire burning under this issue all last week. Only ones talking about this are Mark Levin and a couple radio hosts in Milwaukee o—Vicki McKenna and Mark Belling on WISN. WLS is ignoring it. Rush & Hannity are not not spending lots of time on it, but hopefully they will.

This is ahuge issue. I don’t know why no one seems to care...perhaps they are shell-shocked with all the stuff—seems like daily. However, everyone should be scared—very scared if they value freedom of choice for medical care, doctors, etc.

This is a huge socialist power grab for nearly a fifth of the economy. If our health care system goes down, there is no where to go. Innovation will end. There will be no incentive for new products like Tamiflu, etc. The best and brightest will not be going to Med school.

Socialized health care devolves into rationing and no one wins. Of course, like the USSR, the elite in Washington will have their own private system—kind of like how they have their own social security retirement system that happens to not be broken.

Living in Illinois, I feel it is pretty hopeless for my Senate representation; however, my Congressperson is fairly conservative. The toppling of this will hinge on the vulnerable and moderate democrats. People need to get going calling, supporting organizations that oppose this. If the non-contributors get free-health care, we as a free nation are screwed imho.

One problem I see in your post and in many similar posts: it ends with “the GOP needs to . . .,” “Chairman Steele needs to . . ..”

No! Haven’t we learned already the limits of depending on someone else to do the people’s business for us?

Sure, I hope and pray the GOP does do what it should. But nothing will work unless we, the people, do the educating, do the opposing, do the outrage, do the protesting, do the canvassing, do the voting.

Let’s shed this mentality (not talking to you directly) that we are helplessly and hopelessly dependent upon some party or pol to take care of business for us.

*shrugs* life goes on. The best thing we can do is to move our capital to tax havens like Dubai and get medical care there if we need it.

I don't know what we can do honestly. No one teaches that socialism and communism are bad thing anymore, so if you tell the younger people that "this is socialism" or "this is communism" you don't get the type of visceral negative reaction that you'd get out of normal people.

Couple that with over half the voting majority of people in this country either paying no taxes or being on some kind of government assistance and we can see that the math just isn't on our side.

As a Christian, an American and a conservative I’m confused these days.
My faith tells me that no man is in a position of power unless the Almighty allows it.

So, is opposing this administration going against the will of God?

But, on the other hand...we are admonished to ‘render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and render unto God what is God’s’-I consider my life and my children the utmost gift from God and belong to Him, so just how much of our lives do we give over to the government?
This is not meant to be a smartypants post...I really do wrestle with these issues, daily now it would seem. : (

Yes, there is something we can do, but it will not be easy: http://pushbackuntil.com. But what choice do we have? If we, the people, do not step up and make a lot of noise for the next 5-10 years, this and future Congresses will continue to destroy this country.

Glenn Beck had a lady on last night talking about this. She’s a naturalized citizen from Canada and talked about how people from other countries come here for the best medical care (i.e. Berlusconi, etc.) and that, if we go to universal care, there will be no place left to get good medical help. We are the last place on earth.

Sadly NO there is nothing that can be done until 2010 election cycle. The democrats have a majority and once Stuart Smally arrives in Washington they are even Fillibuster proof. First thing is the GOP needs to rid itself of RINO’s Like McCain. Stop trying to be Bi-Partisan and going along with dem’s. Use the only thing we have left the public opinion. VOTE. Get your friends and family to the polls. Talk to people about issues.

You mean there are two if us in MA !! I qualify completely as a DHS certified domestic threat.

We need to launch an amnesty type phone line meltdown when this is debated in Congress. This is actually an issue where plenty of democrats will be on our side since they are aware of the disaster in Canada and Britain and unlike taxes (which only 50% pay) this impacts every single person. Here is the approach I use when discussing this: everyone wants the lowest price, best quality and best service for every product / service we buy and it is impossible to have all three. In health care which of those are you willing to give up and any rational person will say “price”. I then say if you make it universal that will increase demand with the supply of care being static then both service and quality will go down and if you cap doctor's incomes then quality goes down further. Then I top it off with when was the last time you had to go in for any specialist appointment or even an MRI ? In Canada it would take you 5 times as long and in Britain they may deny it because your life is not worth saving. Unless they are an unhinged Obamabot this at least gets them thinking internally and the wheels are set in motion.

The courts are one avenue to fight this. Another is competition, which IMO would best be provided at this juncture by setting up medical care facilities on Indian reservations, exempt from federal and state laws, including all the trumped-up malpractice garbage. Not only would this be great for patients and medical professionals, but it would be great for the Indian tribes, who have so far been building their economies largely around gambling and tobacco sales.

Once profitable businesses delivering high quality medical care have been set up on Indian reservations, people who live too far away for that to be convenient would start clamoring for the same type of businesses in their own areas, and apply political pressure. Trouble is, our entire medical care system has been largely socialized and outrageously overregulated for so long, that few Americans can even imagine what truly FREE healthcare would look like.

Under rationed healthcare, we will not live as long as our parents. Doesn’t that make anyone angry? We have lived at the apex of civilization and are now sliding downward toward the abyss. We won’t get there tomorrow, but that is where we are headed.

A LOT of people I know are very unhappy about the prospects for socialized care. It is NOT going to be a slam dunk for the administration. Entire industries will fight this.

Here’s what I’m doing.

I’m a physician (interventional pain) and I’m alerting my patients of pending legislation. Specifically, I have been alerting my patients of an AP article indicating that doctors may be punished for ordering too many advanced inmaging tests (MRI scans?).

I also believe that even if we have Orwellian style coverage restrictions, a free market will emerge whereby patients can receive the care that they want. Let’s hope that the free market will not be a black market.

It’s possible as the heathcare rationing comes to light there will be a rush of Medicare and Medicaid patients to schedule their procedures before strict rationing come to pass. Hmm sound a little like stocking up on ammo.
