National Tea Party Leadership Team Accepts President Obama's Invitation ^ | Wednesday, April 30, 2009

Posted on 04/29/2009 12:42:59 PM PDT by kristinn

New York, New York – April 29th, 2009 - The National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition ( today accepted President Obama`s invitation "to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”

The invitation was extended by the President at a Town Hall Meeting held in Arnold, Missouri today ( Michael Patrick Leahy, a member of the National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, said " We want to broaden the scope to address the President`s runaway march to socialist-statism, and the rampant across the board irresponsible spending he is promoting with his $787 Billion Stimulus Plan and his $1 Trillion Annual Deficit, his takeover of General Motors, Chrysler and the Banks ."

Kellen Giuda, organizer of the New York City Tea party attended by 12,000 and of Parcbench ( said, “I think a constructive dialogue with the President would be a great opportunity for him to acknowledge that, yes, many Americans have a problem with the way Washington is handling our taxpayer dollars and also that we are concerned about health care and social security reform. I am happy he is open to a discussion. The Tea Parties are protesting against fiscal irresponsibility and any dialogue we can have will hopefully bring a better public understanding of our country`s finances. Health care and social security reform is a large concern to us."

The National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition includes 25 of the more than 900 local organizers of the April 15, 2009 Tax Day Tea Parties held across the country, which were attended by more than 1 million Americans. Members of the National Leadership Team includes Judson Phillips, organizer of the Nashville Tea Party attended by 10,000, James Dickey, organizer of the Dallas Tea Party, attended by 5,000, and JoAnn Abbot, organizer of the Washington, DC Tea Party attended by more than 3,000. Thanks for the clarification of the What-Why-Where the National organization is.

A reference to Post 145 should be put in the title of this thread.

These are people who organized the local event you ATTENDED, if you attended.

For heaven's sake! Look at yourself. Your first retort to Navy Vet is to pretend to knowledge you don't have and to be WRONG, but emphatically.

When shown to be wrong, Instead of accounting for the error of your assumption or even acknowledging it, you just press your attack on Navy Vet.

Your argument WAS, these people organized something you did, so get behind them, even if you don't know who they are. When Navy Vet says they didn't organize anything that HE did, you attack him with another argument.

You're not going to get ME to follow these guys that way. This is how the opposition acts.

Not really. I like Sniper and don’t take things personally. We just disagree on this issue.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Why are we being called RINOs? What was the logic behind that statement?

Obama has made a profession of being a liar and along with a number of more recent predecessors in the Oval Office, as well as his buddies in Congress, has honed this skill to a fine art.

A people gets the government it deserves and as long as Americans are willing to elect people who lie to them, they will continue to hold office.

Leahy was trying to attach his extra pet issues such as a bill for federalism and a new constitutional convention, which no one was onboard with.

A con-con would be the end of our republic. It would be hijacked by socialists with the full blessing of the MSM, and it would enshrine communism into law. It would be a total disaster. This is a main plot thread in my new novel.

Who are they? Are they legitimately able to claim the mantle of leadership of the national tea party movement?
I’m pretty suspicious and I don’t remember any election among tea party groups to elect leadership of a national coalition.

Hear, hear. Interesting how people are presuming that mantle. This will be a great danger for the movement - people trying to co-opt it. And the Ds trying to re-define it, marginalize it and kick it to the curb. We need thoughtful leadership - and it should be elected regionally, even state by state - not presumed upon us nationally. That sort of faulty arrogant leadership is exactly what we’re fighting AGAINST.

That said, I think there’s a vacuum in leadership for the movement that needs to be addressed. But again, probably starting at the state level.

Yes. dear leader just wants to smile, while shoving a dagger in their backs and walking away. If they meet with him, expect it to be with no publicity save that Obama is open to the agenda of the Tea Parties trumpeted from the press for 15 minutes, followed by empty air (that’ll be the last word about it on the TOTUS.)

“No one on the list claims that we are speaking for any tea party organizers other than ourselves. We came up with a name for a coalition so that the press would feel that there was a legitimate organization requesting to meet with Obama, at his suggestion. No one in this group is trying to usurp the leadership of the tea party movement, which is truly a grass-roots movement. There is no national leadership group.”

This is a good clarification. However, once we start taking titles and mantles, I get a bit nervous, and the whole idea seems a bit loosey goosey. We’re going to deceive the general public with a phony national leadership team that we don’t really have, in order to show that Obama is a deceiver. Hmmm...did you think through how that sounds/appears?

If we truly need a leadership team - maybe we should elect representatives at the state levels to select a team. I suppose we do have need for some leadership. If that is the case, then like a non-profit org - we should certainly have rotational leadership - so that we don’t get some kind of ensconced group in there.

Thanks for the clarification. I figured it was something like this. I thought Obama might meet with you but ignore what was said. But clearly, he’s too afraid to even hold a sham of a meeting with any of us.

The damage is done. The stamp of 'just another failed republican organizing effort has been placed upon the tea party movement. The million or two who are tea party participants won't be duped by the media's portrayal, but the rest of the world is going to swallow whatever kool-aid comes from the enemedia.

David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel, Barack O bow ma are not amateur liars, they are skilled liars, practiced in the ways of deceiving the people to manipulate opinions. Axerlrod practically wrote the book on astroturfing. Axelrod has accomplished what he desired, he has marginalized the tea party movement as a bunch of disorganized feckless hacks.

We know that's a lie but the media will gladly feed that lie knowing it's a lie because the media is populated with dead souls sold out to Marxist ideology! We saw the layering of lies during the campaign over issues like the Ayers connections, the obscenity of rev. Wright's hate-whitey filled preaching, and the community organizer mantra. Axelrod uses layering of lies to accomplish what he seeks. Apparently American voters either like being lied to or are too stupid to put two and two together. This started with a lie ('National Tea Party Leadership Team') and now that they have been exposed a new lie is substituted for the starting lie.

BTW, Paul Begala and James Car vile are members at FreeRepublic, too. Mary Matlin revealed they visit conservative sites 'for laughs', no doubt obtained by pulling our conservative chains the way Non Sequitur does all the time.

When I seldom see a name in action, then all at once they appear, jumping into the middle of discussions, I've got to wonder if we've got a planted agitator on our hands.

Tigereye, you have done your damndest to escalate a misunderstanding into a major conflict.

I'm going to watch you in the future, and figure out just exactly what your mission is.

I remember kids in school who would stir up something on the playground, then run and tell the teacher. Were you one of them?

Maybe, even, you're one of the CONCON pushers, trying to derail the Tea Party movement. I don't know, but I'll watch out!

I randomly selected a few of you to write to because you recently posted on this thread. I just need to clarification or feedback. SOMETHING...

I have to preface this with the statement that all of the organized events sponsored by Free Republic were successful. We cannot deny that.... There were leaders and volunteers who represented Free Republic very well. The events made virtual history, and c-span provided FR with excellent coverage. I would even go further to say that if not for the internet, the events may not have been as successful as they were! Also, Kristinn has done a fine job speaking on behalf of Free Republic. We cannot deny the role Free Republic has played in history. It was groundbreaking.

While all of us should give the tea party "organizers" full credit for organizing a loose knit group of citizens by finding the locations for tea parties, publicity etc, we should also make it known that at this point no one asked for an average citizen to be a leader of the cause. The million or so folks who participated arose out of severe frustration, and their voices were heard... Their statement was very clear. This is about the way the govt is ran, the size of the govt, the high taxes, the bailouts, and disconnect between the elected representatives and the voters. Other issues, such as a few care, social security, etc, are very tricky issues..and I pray that if these self-appointed leaders attempt to summarize all of our voices into one statement, they are right on target, and straight to the point because this is not a debate with congress or the president. This is a demand from the people who attended.

The attendees informally took time out of their days, whether it be to write a letter, make a phone call etc, and joined together because they are speaking out to the elected leaders in congress to do their jobs, or move out of our house, and our senate so we can elect someone who will actively promote less taxes, smaller govt etc.

Are the 900 organizers in contact with each other, if not, why not? If they are, do they agree with the leadership in the coalition?

If the WH and press is not given an official statement in which conveys that there is no official leadership to this cause, and this coalition is not officially recognized by the tea party attendees, it's time someone let the other 875+ organizers be aware. Pronto.

Everyone needs to be on board when it comes to official statements to the Presidential office, and media. The current pres wants you to join him, he has no intention of negotiating, backing down, or stepping aside to allow our cause to be recognized, or should I say...these are causes he will NEVER agree with.

He and his ilk are not only ignoring our "demands", THEY ARE CALLING THIS AN ASTROTURF MOVEMENT instead of a grassroots movement. They could not be more insulting.

I cannot believe any of the tea party organizers would want to sit in the same room with them, let alone give the time of day to people whose goal is to turn this into more of a socialist or marxist country. Do you really think they care what you have to say?

They used their official positions to insult the million or so citizens, by saying this is a fake movement...

We have a very simple local contact group. We try to keep abreast of the situations and share data. Often we get input from folks in other groups and places. There is a setup so we can donate a few bucks when we are able.

I don't know of any puppet strings attached to what we're doing. There darn sure isn't any significant external support coming in, and no one is telling me what to do, or telling anyone else what to do, or how to think.

I find a lot of stuff and pass it on, I'm retired and have more time to watch things than most of the group. When I pass something on I don't spin it, I just spit it out and let anyone draw their own conclusions.

We aren't really organized, but hopefully we will be sort of coordinated.

My personal issue is constitutional liberty, re the 2nd amendment, if we have that the rest will work out. Other folks may have a slightly different focus, but the core issue is freedom, when you boil it all down. I've been appointed or elected to absolutely NOTHING. I have NO official status or position. If I see something that seems to need doing or saying I go for it. If it turns out I am wrong in a particular moment, well, it won't be the first time, and it won't stop me from trying again.

Y'all find a George Washington, and I'll follow him, but not blindly.
