Obama Targets Tea Bags at Town Hall (President Criticizes Americans Again)
Politico ^ | Wednesday, April 29, 2008 | Alexander Burns

Posted on 04/29/2009 9:56:39 AM PDT by kristinn

At his 100th-day town hall meeting in St. Louis, Mo., President Obama took direct aim at the anti-tax “tea party” demonstrations that have cropped up over the last month – and took a veiled shot at FOX News Channel, at the cable news network closely associated with the protests.

Asked about fiscal discipline and entitlements reform, Obama seemed to be repressing a smile as he jabbed critics of his spending plans.

"Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I'm not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, “let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”

“But,” Obama continued, “let's not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act."

It’s the president’s most direct response so far to the protests that flared up in some locations around tax day, on April 15.

In his briefing that day, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters: “I don't know if there's a specific response to protests..I think you saw the president today talk about as candidate Obama promising to bring a tax cut to 95 percent of working families in America, and as president delivering that tax cut.”

He’s never had a serious conversation with his adversaries. Just ask Rush or Hannity.

Hey O whamy, I intend, along with my family, to be at the next one on July 4th. BTW, the is the date the colonists here signed the Declaration of Independence. I would pay attention to this one item especially: "He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation" Were I you, I would pay particular attention and not adopt the tone deaf approach that King George III did. You are neither a King nor a for life president so get off your high horse and stop the criticism of some of the electorate.
We have concerns and we are petitioning you about them: universal health care is not doable; we do not wish to hand our grand children an un-payable debt; we do not wish to transfer our property which was gotten by hard work and astute investment to anyone who chose to go another route; we do not give away secrets of government to curry favor with a radical anti US group to which you owe allegiance and lastly how about producing that birth certificate rather than obfuscating the issue.

Just my simple advice and I offer it for free.

Vince

ok - the most important thing to come out of it is we know it can be done. a million or so people. plus how many honks of supports for every protester?

I think it’s going well. he’s lower than Bush was at the same time.

“He really is a nasty piece of work, isn’t he?”

It’s difficult to tell what he is really. Whether he means what he’s saying or simply reading the viciousness of his writers’ from the teleprompter.

He never appears as though he has taken what he’s saying and made it his own.

I think he is bright in some ways, and dumb as a sink full of rocks in others.

It is one reason he needs a teleprompter.

He should admit that at least $700B of the deficit is because of Obama/Pelosi's massive and wasteful pork bill that he calls the "Recovery Act", an act that only contributes to recovery in the sense that big Democrat donors more than recover the money they gave to crooked candidates.

Right from the Marxist playbook. Target critics, blame others, control the media cycle.

Really? So you personally ponied up the $800 billion? Find it growing on a tree?

Great!! They’re feeling the heat! Specter couldn’t take it and was afraid he’d lose the next primary so switched parties. That won’t save him. Ten dollars to a donut the Democrats don’t want his treasonous butt either. Keep pouring the coal on! These corrupt constitution trampling politicians need to gain a healthy respect for, or better yet, FEAR of the PEOPLE!

Expecting POTUS to sit down and have a debate with commentators like Rush is unrealistic. I would hardly have expected Bush to sit down with Chrissy Mathews.

Bright people do not necessarily speak well. Professional and engaging speech is not necessarily an intelligence test.

What I am trying to say is that there are many ways one can be “bright”. Public speaking is one way.

I was merely trying to say that, like all of us that got propper pre- and post-natal care and have no genetic defects, zero is “bright” in some ways, and less so in others.
