Thanks.
Do you know any news of the incubation period of this swine flu ?
I heard anywhere from 24 hours to 7-10 days ?
A little good news... Biden is visiting in Houston today - sure hope he visits the little tykes at the Children’s Hospital of Houston
Don’t you just love the apologists who claim to be fiscal conservatives but don’t mind spending your money for illegals to invade our country?
That said secure our Borders NOW!
“There were at least three references implying that the child had illegal or undocumented status. Our great state constitution states:
Sec. 3a. EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW. Equality under the law shall not be denied or abridged because of sex, race, color, creed, or national origin. This amendment is self-operative. (Added Nov. 7, 1972.)”
With no disrespect to the dead...
The baby wasn’t arrested. Equality under the Law does NOT mean that American citizens pay for illegals medical bills. Period. If I go to the hospital, you can bet your sweet britches I will have to pay my own way....and if they come over and they don’t have to pay....how is that equality? Doesn’t seem equal to me...
This is just another example of being told to shut up while our families are being endangered of something that could have been prevented. They can shove it where the sun doesn't shine for all I care. My family comes first! And I'm sick of taxpayer's footing the bill!
I’m not a fan of either socialized medicine or illegals coming across the border to receive free medical care, but I can understand parents doing whatever they thought was necessary to save their child’s life. Certainly if they crossed the border illegally, their choice to break the law can be questioned, but I’ve not seen confirmation of that yet. And, yes, I realize we may never know it for certain.
Yes, they are just like Arlen Specter. They would stab you in the back in a heart beat.
Contagious up to 24 hours before any symptoms appear and then up to 7 days thereafter or as long as you have symptoms. Potentially longer in younger children.
Not only that your bill is padded to pay for the ones who don't pay. Why do you think your bill is so high?! It doesn't cost $30 for an aspirin or $45 for a puke pan.
I’m really about fed up with the way the press is sensationalizing this crap.
First of all, this kid was SICK IN MEXICO! He came to the U.S. for treatment and died. That does not make it the first U.S. death. They are just spinning it.
Second, There’s somewhere around 60,000 death per year in the U.S. from the flu. That’s over 150 per day and not a single damn headline about that, but we are going to jump all over this foreign national who came to our country to die.
It’s a bunch of BS if you ask me.
The child had other underlying medical problems according to the report but yet the parents were dragging the child across the country with the flu. It doesn’t sound as if they were too worried about the child or anyone else for that matter.
How many people did they infect in the process? Maybe they should have been seeking medical care for the child instead of ‘visiting’ family and friends across Mexico (and spreading the flu).
They are lying.
Ask them, what is more likely to cause this thing to spread more...500 infected people already here, or 20,000 potential carriers, entering every single day from Mexico?
Ask them, would American rather try to manage 500 sick and ill, or 20,000 potentially sick and ill crossing in every single day from Mexico?
thanks for the info I appreciate it :)
“as opposed to their evil and corrupt oligarchy that passes as a legitimate government; is quite appalling.”
Spoken like a true liberal. Mexico has, for this first time in decades, a fairly ‘conservative’ president, who is trying to clean up Mexico’s government and you rant on and on about the ‘oil oligarchy’ in many of your posts in this forum.
Then you post some section of the Texas constitution about ‘Equality Under The Law’ in regards to providing Mexican citizens free healthcare?
We are about to have a refugee problem on our border in the middle of a possible epidemic and you are droning on and on about the ‘oil oligarchy’ and the Texas Constitution?
Get your head screwed on straight. We should send help to Mexico and treat them there...not HERE! Our borders should be closed to everything other than trade(and even that if neccessary).
Obama and his administration are failing this ‘test’ and you want to start throwing stones around Free Republic when people state the obvious and the facts surrounding this poor child?
You are the one using the death of this Mexican child for nefarious and self righteous purposes..not us.
Texas’ health officials say a Mexican toddler who is the first confirmed US death from swine flu arrived in Texas from Mexico on April 4th.
The Texas Department of State Health Services said Wednesday the Mexico City boy, who was about 2 years old, had underlying health problems when he traveled to Brownsville, Texas, to visit relatives. He was admitted to a Houston hospital a few days after developing a fever and other flu symptoms and died on Monday night.
In her testimony, Napolitano repeated the administration’s position that “passive surveillance” of U.S. land and sea ports was sufficient for now, saying that closing borders “has not been merited by the facts.”
The WHO argues against closing borders to stem the spread, and the U.S. although checking arriving travelers for the ill who may need care agrees it’s too late for that tactic.
In the U.S. alone, the CDC says about 36,000 people a year die of flu-related causes. Still, the CDC calls the new strain a combination of pig, bird and human viruses for which people may have limited natural immunity.

“We are supposed to ignore the fact that the flu started in Mexico for fear of upsetting some people or being called ‘haters’.”
Bingo!
Isn’t this how all democrat strategists operate when ‘The messiah’ is questioned by conservatives?
Color me suspicious.
In Mexico, where the disease first broke out, more than 2,000 cases had been confirmed as of Wednesday, including more than 150 deaths.

Health officials predicted the grim news a day earlier, when authorities said they “fully expect” to see U.S. deaths as the virus continued its spread around the world.
The new virus is suspected in 159 deaths and 2,498 illnesses across Mexico, said Health Secretary Jose Cordova, who called the death toll “more or less stable” even as hospitals are swamped with people who think they have swine flu. And he said only 1,311 suspected swine flu patients remain hospitalized, a sign that treatment works for people who get medical care quickly.
Besser told The Early Show that trying to determine why the disease has caused so many more fatalities in Mexico than elsewhere was “a critical question” for American scientists working on the ground with their counterparts south of the border.
He said understanding the differences between the disease’s spread in Mexico and the rest of the world, “can be helpful as we plan and implement our control strategies.”
