He knew he was going to lose in the Republican primary ... now wouldn’t it be hilarious if he loses in the Democratic primary?

Yes, but realistically what are the chances of that?

The damage done to the Republican party by the RINO George W. Bush will continue to add up

His devotion to the Saudi's was always a little much for me anyway. He left the Iran mess for Israel to clean up, and I have no doubt that Obama will use all means available to protect Iran from those awful Israelis.

A slimy pol like Arlen Specter isn't going to jump out of the Republican frying pan into the Democrat fire unless he's taken steps to feather his nest across the aisle.

Doubtless, Specter worked out a deal with Gov. Rendell before hitting the silk. He's not going to face serious opposition in the Democrat primary.

>.His devotion to the Saudi’s

Well, considering the depth of the relationship his Dad had with the Saudis, and the general intimacy of the Houston-Riyadh axis, it’s not surprising.

One thing, he was loyal to the Saudis and protected them from American wrath as much as one could.

Fighting Jihad without accounting for the tsunami of funds and the torrents of ideology and theology in support of jihad emanating from the Saudis, the Emiratis and Qataris is fairly futile in a strategic sense. Tactical victories abound, but how do you crack the nut of WorldWideWahhabism without somehow neutralizing the Fount.

"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans"

What does he mean, "now"? Hasnt it always?

Best news I heard in quite a while, hopefully the rest of the RINO's will quickly join him. The only hope for the republican party is to return to conservative principals and have a consistent message, something they will never be able to do until they purge the liberal garbage from the party.

I agree. We need to be able to offer a real alternative to the dems, not the dem-light these RINOs offer.

Agreed.

Almost all of the 535 need to go. The few newbies that get voted in periodically walk in to a barrel of rotten apples. It’s not like they can stay clean for long and keep their seats.

What’s passing for representation in DC is tragic and vile. So much for all the beautiful travertine. You can’t wash the stench of corruption off of it.

“Officials close to the White House say that Vice President Joe Biden, who served in the Senate with Specter for 28 years from next door Delaware and became close to him through their work on the Judiciary Committee, played a pivotal if quiet role in persuading the five-term senator to switch parties.”

This is the biggest BS spin effort I’ve ever read. Specter knew he couldn’t win the 2010 primary, no how no way. For the pure sake of political self preservation he called his old friend Joe and said he’d like to make a deal. Joe promised his and Obambi’s full support in the 2010 dem primary and the general, no question, even if Specter did not march in lock step with The One’s agenda. At least Jeffords switched parties very shortly after Bush’s inaugural, and I believe he did it because he had fundamental differences with Bush and his agenda. Specter is a totally different story. If anything the dems in PA should be very wary of him, he does not remind me of a candidate who instills confidence and trust, to say the least. I don’t think Specter will campaign as an Obamabot, he knows he needs dem, some Repub and the majority of Ind voters in order to return to Washington. That’s why I think he will vote with his former friends more often than many believe, just to try to carve out an independent reputation. I think the real winner today is Pat Toomey, Go Pat!!!

After pretending to be a Republican for years, even as republicans argued over what a massive RINO he is, he’s now, just now, decided to switch? Sure, why not now, after a long history of subversive-esque voting habits, his real party controls all and he can fulfill his destiny as the new Dem to give them a filibuster-proof (with franken) senate. Oh happy day, happier even still for us real republicans in PA who watched him and his service to our state and nation as he opposed so many Republican issues. /rant over

I didn’t know they actually had gotten him back to the U.S.
Last I heard, they were still refusing to send him back, because he faced the death penalty.

Allegedly, though a Republican, he likes to tout the fact that he was an independent thinker, that he didn’t allow the party agenda to define him. Let’s see how successful he is with that scam in the democrat party. They love independent thinkers.

As long as they toe the party line. And they all come around sooner (no later).

I believe that after many years, Lynn Abraham (the Phila. DA) finally convinced the French government to extradite the murderer based on a promise that she would not seek the death penalty against him. I think he was convicted and is now sitting out the remainder of his wonderful life in Graterford or one of the other high-security facilities in Phila. At least this is what I remember from a segment from Bill Kurtis’ American Justice on the A&E cable channel.
