Specter says he's switching from GOP to Democrats

WASHINGTON (AP) - Veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter disclosed plans Tuesday to switch parties, a move intended to boost his chances of winning re-election next year that will also push Democrats closer to a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.

"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans," Specter said in a statement posted on a Web site devoted to Pennsylvania politics and confirmed by his office. Several Senate officials said a formal announcement could come later in the day or Wednesday.

Working for his party as he always has done. Good observation! Thanks for pointing it out.

PA is a big state, and quite competitive. Weren’t some big name, well funded Dems already in the race? I hope they keep running and don’t let Specter have the nomination by acclamation next year. I’ll will bet they start screaming he is too conservative for the party! A bruising primary battle won’t help. If 0’s ratings are low in Nov. of next year, just maybe Toomey can win.

That was my reaction too. What is the big deal? Will he vote any differently now? No...unless of course he is a coward and devoid of any values anc character...wait a minute, I am killing my own arguement. Actually though, I do not see where it will be any different.

How about a big round of applause for George Bush for supporting this piece of crap last time around?

The damage done to the Republican party by the RINO George W. Bush will continue to add up for a few more years.

Memo to Democrats: be very careful, Arlen's a snake.

Your boy Obama now owns everything.

Santorum was defeated by a democrat decisively in the last election. I don’t think Santorum is a RINO!

This is excellent news. Brownback, McCain, Graham, Snowe, and the other hen Senator from communist New England should announce too and get it over with. Seriously, I’m relieved. When this thing finally falls apart, no conservative should be anywhere near this thing.

I’m going to enjoy watching the US rob Chrysler’s shareholders and bond holders to give the Union and Fiat a new car company - backed with venture capital at zero cost from you and me.

I’m still looking around in the Constitution for the amendment that was passed that blesses this sort of thing.

He has always played for the other team, now he just does so in plain sight. I, for one, am glad to be rid of him.

Time to flush the gene pool. He is 80 years old, senile and it is time for him to go. Good riddance, get rid of the bum. He has been up there for 40 years screwing with the American people. Enact Term Limits. He is at least 20 years overdue for retirement.

Good riddance and it's about time! This should have happened YEARS ago.

Conservatives and Republicans in every state of this country, should donate to Toomey's campaign. Specter MUST be defeated.

Good riddance.

What good is having the R behind your name when you side with the D’s all too often?

He has been very liberal for sometime and the GOP does not need him.

Take the other RINO’s with you, Arlen.

Bye Bye, so long, farewell, don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
