A photo shoot involving a 747 used as Air Force One and two fighter jets flying at low altitude led to hundreds of frightened calls from residents and workers in Lower Manhattan this morning, triggering memories of 9-11 as many evacuated their offices...
According to officials, the flight -- authorized by the FAA -- came in as low as 1000 feet to 150 feet above the city as it made a large circle over Manhattan, Staten Island, and New Jersey...
Other officials noted that they were led to believe the flight would be limited to the area near the Statue of Liberty, however the flight pattern was above a much larger portion of New York and at an extremely low altitude.

Mr. Caldera has publicly acknowledged (as of 4:39 p.m. Monday afternoon) that he is the one who ordered the flight, and that it unintentionally caused confusion and disruption, and he has apologized. ..."

I can.
I’ve served in thi military... and as screwed up as it is, at least it CAN do its mission. (IE it’s the least screwed-up portion of government.)
>W would never have done this.
“W” actually respected people and life.
I don’t doubt our military, just its commanders at times. No one at the FAA or WH planning team even once said, ‘you know? this might not be a good idea.’ ???
New Yorkers (for the most part) are stupid. They overwhelming voted for a muslim with almost the same last name as the original terrorist.
Someone needs to ask Louis Caldera why he authorized this mission? That is the KEY question. If they photos of AF1, then 100% it has something to do with Obama. Keep on this everyone.
>Do these people even think???
No.
Next question.
Obama is the law.
Wonder if the photos will now be classified and not released because they are to sensative for the public to see.
I think we should call it another campaign stunt. Zero is still in the campaign mode and will be for at least four more years.
If you are lazy. There are two of them, do you call both of them AF One? Or AF One and AF One A?
F-15s are Eagles, A-10s are Worthogs, E-8s are Joint STARS, E-3s are AWACS, RC-135s can be Rivit Joint, etc.
And when they are airborne, they have a callsign, not F-15 One, Two etc.
Were they C models that were escorting it? Or could it have been B or D models?
Those are interesting questions that people will hopefully look into.
(3) Couldn’t this “photo op” have been done more cheaply using computer imaging, rather than tie up 3 expensive jets?
Yeah, not to mention this crowd wants US TO CONSERVE. Hypocrites! Unreal, stupid, inane, wasteful, hypocritical. It’s hard to even believe it!
Or is obama above the law?
Obama is the law.
How bad can this get? I know the answer to that. Will anyone oppose the king? Will we oppose the tyranny?
“Zero is still in the campaign mode”
Lucky us - perma campaign.
“...the plane is called Air Force One...
If you are lazy. There are two of them, do you call both of them AF One? Or AF One and AF One A?”
The aircraft is a VC-25 Air Force One (you may check the annual Air Force Almanac if you wish). There are 2 aircraft distinguished by tail numbers.
“F-15s are Eagles...
And when they are airborne, they have a call sign, not F-15 One, Two etc.”
The point of my comment was to clarify the difference between the nomenclature and call sign. When I was airborne I had a call sign but my aircraft's nomenclature never changed. Someone on the ground looking up would refer to the nomenclature not the call sign (which is the true context of my post).
I don't get the need for your "lazy" comment.
And yet, using the term AF One for the aircraft is confusing callsign and nomenclature.
