the message is the same: A woman’s worth lies in her ability — or her refusal — to be sexual

Didn't used to be that way in the bad old days. It changed when you people convinced a lot of women the way to be a feminist was to screw multiple partners like some horndog single guy. Plenty of guys thought that changed attitude was the answer to their fantasies. Now, many just look at women as the pool from which they'll get their next hookup. So, how do you propose to clean up the mess you made and the damage you did to both genders?

I’d rather have my tax $$ go there instead of $350 million to Planned Parenthood.

Well, the Feds have been funding Planned Parenthood for at least twenty years and I unfortunately I do not see that coming to an end any time soon.

Purity balls are about the only federal ‘arts’ funding I would support!

The sexual double standard is alive and well, and it's irrevocably damaging young women.

There is a double standard because sexuality is precisely what makes men and women different.

"The Purity Myth" is something I've been thinking about for a long time. When I lost my virginity as a high school freshman, I didn't understand why I didn't feel changed somehow.

So because it was meaningless to you, we should tell all girls it's meaningless? This is the modus operandi of the narcissistic left. If it doesn't bother them, it shouldn't bother anyone.

See Miriam Grossman's book Unprotected: A Campus Psychiatrist Reveals How Political Correctness in Her Profession Endangers Every Student (interview at National Review here). Basically, young women have been sold exactly the advice that this aricle gives, that sex isn't that important and that women shouldn't feel bad about it. Guess what? For many young women, it doesn't work and messes them up.

>>That is very disturbing.<<

Even if the statement were true, which it is not (rather a quote from a slamming article in Glamor Magazine), it is tons less disturbing than encouraging our girls to allow any boy, man, woman, dog, etc, to masturbate using her body and telling her it’s her right to sexual freedom.

This story also proves the MSM agenda to destroy fathers. Every swipe they get, they will get the claws out and shred away.

Dad is absent and not connected and concerned about their kids, especially ‘daughters’? Hit pieces on absentee fathers, how rough it is for the kids whne dad isn’t involved enough.

Dads that are concerned about their daughters not giving it out to just anyone, hopefully keeping themselves safe and pure until marriage, and dads get blasted again. WHo the hell are the dads to do this, kids are gonna have sex, there’s nothing you can do to stop it, and we can make it sound really creepy if we word things like the girls are pledging their virginity TO their dads instead of what we really know they are doing, just pledging to their dads they won’t havesex until they are married.

Concerned fathers get screwed by the MSM. Fathers who aren’t concerned enough, according to the MSM, get screwed too. The logical conclusion is that there is nothing fathers can do to satisfy the MSM, and that the MSM is at war on dads. Gotta keep on destroying the family. Fit the agenda, frame the piece, focus on the target, and blast away.

“Let’s just get rid of the shame of sleeping around whenever you feel like it.”

There is no shame in sleeping around in today’s culture. It is widely accepted, and expected for the most part. College students would find more shame in being a virgin, than they would in sleeping with several partners in a week. I don’t think this is a good thing, but that is the reality for the lives of our young adults.

As Rush says, abstinence is the one sure form of birth control that works every time it is tried. As a father of 3 teenage daughters, my wife and I teach our children that abstinence is the proper way to go for a number of reasons. My wife also has had the “sex” talk with them and I did with our 2 boys. So far, so good.

“In fact, 88 percent of pledgers wind up breaking their pledge and having sex before marriage, according to a study by Peter Bearman, the chair of Columbia University’s Department of Sociology, and Hannah Bruckner of Yale.”

Double standard, yes. Women in WW2 were taught to save themselves for their man, while the guys were given condoms and penicillin before being allowed on Liberty.

Is purity a myth? Apparently popularity/social pressure are driving alot of young women to Oral or masturbating their boyfriends or even the whole hockey team. So where are the balls with boys pledging their mothers to keep their pants zipped?

Actually, reading over her biographical information, the irony is that this woman’s teenaged sexual experiences and attitudes do seem to define her life and she seems to do a pretty good job of living up to the stereotype she chose for herself.

Yes, for some reason this whole purity thing is rather one sided in that it focuses only on females and not males. Do we somehow value the virginity of females more than the virginity of males?

And if so, the purity pledge regime must depend on there being a population of females that did not take the Pledge in order to satisfy the their boys who do not have to take the same pledge as their sisters.

However, the data show that the Purity Pledge is only successful 12% of the time.

It was meaningless for her because she lost her virginity as a freshman. A 14 y/o girl and a 14-15 y/o guy are not mature enough for physical contact to have any deeper meaning than the physical sensation. I find it sad that she seems, based on her article as a whole, to have missed out completely on meaningful relationships and doesn't even understand that she lost out.

The issue of sexual purity must be handled differently between boys and girls, because... and I know this is a shock... boys and girls are wired differently.

I sincerely doubt that these families that are protecting the purity of their daughters are telling their sons to “go for it”.

Again, it’s the fathers’ responsibility to teach the right values to their sons as well. But it isn’t by taking them to a dance or having a formal with their moms. That’s patently ridiculous.

It’s done by “rituals” like sports, hunting, camping, yard work, car mainenance, etc, and talking with the boys.
