Facebook is peppered with purity groups that exist to support girls trying to “save it.” Schools hold abstinence rallies and assemblies featuring hip-hop dancers and comedians alongside religious leaders. Virginity and chastity are reemerging as a trend in pop culture, in our schools, in the media, and even in legislation. So while young women are subject to overt sexual messages every day, they’re simultaneously being taught — by the people who are supposed to care for their personal and moral development, no less — that their only real worth is their virginity and ability to remain “pure.”
So what are young women left with? Abstinence-only education during the day and Girls Gone Wild commercials at night! Whether it’s delivered through a virginity pledge or by a barely dressed tween pop singer writhing across the television screen, the message is the same: A woman’s worth lies in her ability — or her refusal — to be sexual. And we’re teaching American girls that, one way or another, their bodies and their sexuality are what make them valuable. The sexual double standard is alive and well, and it’s irrevocably damaging young women.

Wow, the author is SO messed up I don’t know where to start... So, I’ll start by refuting him wholesale:
I am 26 years old, male, combat veteran and virgin. To say that virgins don’t exist is a lie; I exist. To say that there is a double standard is, for the most part, also a lie: those in favor of promiscuity seem to be in favor at all levels and on all fronts. And finally, to claim that virginity/purity is the “only” thing of worth, our entire identity, is so ridiculous that he should be laughed out of town.

I guess Jessica wants everyone to be whores then. It’s not so bad, it’s no big deal, let’s break all the stigmas about being sluts and whores and just give it out to whoever we want. First times are always bad anyway so who cares who you do it with the first time. It takes a lot of practice to get it right. You need to be able to have MORE sex to figure out what works for you, or even if you’re gay. You may not know you’re gay until you have sex and find you feel something’s wrong, and that may be because you’re screwing the wrong gender!
Let’s just get rid of the shame of sleeping around whenever you feel like it. Let’s all start going after the folks who want to make us feel bad by calling us whores and sluts and easy and ‘gives it away for free’. Babies? Not a concern, just go to planned parenthood and get pills or a quick no conscience abortion. STDs? We’re young and invincible, and if I get one that won’t ever go away, I can live with it. I can get Valtrex and live with my herpes. They’re all smiling on the commercial. And they say their partner hasn’t gotten it. So that’s cool.

Yeah....because herpes, chlamydia, HIV, HPV and other STD's along with coarseness, bitterness, cynicism and regret are NEVER byproducts of sexuality disconnected from morality.
Christians that understand what they believe and why the believe it encourage sexual purity from BOTH their male and female children.

I think that’s a misleading way to say what they actually do.
They pledge to their dads that they will reamin virgins until they are married. They don’t pledge their virginity TO their dads. I think the sentence is a gross misrepresentation to try to make something into something that tinges on incestuous.

My two oldest did the purity pledge thing at church...the pledge is to their HEAVENLY Father...i.e..God. Of course the fool left probably has no idea who that is....
That must be a "female" thing. I don't know any guys who are harsh on women who put out.
Exactly. That’s the way I took it. She just wants it to sound ‘disturbing’ or weird. I think it’s great that these fathers care! Who better to tell you a boy’s motivations than an old boy who really loves you and is charged with your protection? Have we forgotten that?
