AP Poll: Americans high on Obama, direction of US
Associated Press ^ | April 23, 2009 | Ron Fourner and Trevor Tompson

Posted on 04/23/2009 2:04:24 AM PDT by Zakeet

For the first time in years, more Americans than not say the country is headed in the right direction, a sign that Barack Obama has used the first 100 days of his presidency to lift the public's mood and inspire hopes for a brighter future.

Intensely worried about their personal finances and medical expenses, Americans nonetheless appear realistic about the time Obama might need to turn things around, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll. It shows most Americans consider their new president to be a strong, ethical and empathetic leader who is working to change Washington.

Nobody knows how long the honeymoon will last, but Obama has clearly transformed the yes-we-can spirit of his candidacy into a tool of governance. His ability to inspire confidence — Obama's second book is titled "The Audacity of Hope" — has thus far buffered the president against the harsh political realities of two wars, a global economic meltdown and countless domestic challenges.

"He presents a very positive outlook," said Cheryl Wetherington, 35, an independent voter who runs a chocolate shop in Gardner, Kan. "He's very well-spoken and very vocal about what direction should be taken."

Other AP-GfK findings could signal trouble for Obama:

_While there is evidence that people feel more optimistic about the economy, 65 percent said it's difficult for them and their families to get ahead. More than one-third know of a family member who recently lost a job.

_More than 90 percent of Americans consider the economy an important issue, the highest ever in AP polling.

_Nearly 80 percent believe that the rising federal debt will hurt future generations, and Obama is getting mixed reviews at best for his handling of the issue.

There's probably actually a fair amount of truth to this.

It's been said "He who robs Peter to pay Paul will always have the support of Paul".

0bama has clearly split the country into "Peters" and "Pauls".

And he is clearly a favorite of the "Pauls".

““He presents a very positive outlook,””

A long enough lever might move the earth, but I’ve never seen an outlook do anything.

Hey Cheryl, how’s business? Obama running a lot of folks into your chocolate shop to spend their disposable income?

Her store went out of business on April 18.

My thoughts exactly. These same comments were probably made by many a German citizen in the 1930’s regarding Adolph Hitler.

The Clbuttic Mistake: When obscenity filters go wrong (The Telegraph (London, UK) 9-2-08 Matthew Moore)

The phenomena, known as “The Clbuttic Mistake” after a mangling of the word “classic” that is believed to be the first identified instance of the problem, can be found on tens of thousands of websites.

The error is caused by poorly programmed anti-obscenity filters – similar to spell checkers – that automatically replace words considered rude or offensive with more acceptable variants. “Butt” replaces “ass”...

The problem is fairly widespread; Google searches turn up 3,810 results for “clbuttic”, 5,120 for “consbreastution”, and 1,450 for “Buttociated Press”, a corruption of the US news agency the Associated Press.

Goebbels was there to see that the German People were made to have a positive opinion of Adolph Hitler and his “CHANGEs”.

The media was down on GW Bush from Day One. There was no honeymoon period.

The MSM is America’s Pravda. It serves the Party, not American interests.

They’re not all long haired, homosexual, pot smoking, hippes with a hardon for Barack Obama though that surely describes many of them.

Some of them have short hair...

The only poll I check consistently and give any merit is Rasmussen.

“Her store went out of business on April 18. “

Not exactly the change she was hoping for!

This is a man who:

Is considering bringing charges against former government officials for allegedly being too tough interrogating the modern day equivalents of Assassins

Has attacked America abroad before our allies and enemies

Has selected the worse cabinet of misfits and criminals in history to advise him

Is planning to disarm the American public

Has no concept of freedom of political speech

Believes in coddling Islamic extremists

Has allowed one of his chief creatures to malign American veterans and citizens expressing their opinions on matters of constitutional law

I could on and on. It would read very closely to the charges against George III in the Declaration of Independence.

Yet he does well in a popularity poll????????

Apparently the villains in the mainstream media, Hollywood, and, MOST SIGNIFICANTLY, the Educational Establishment, have done their job VERY WELL.

Sorry, I don’t believe the same scenario will work with Obama as Bush. For one, the media won’t go after OBama. The media will always do it’s best to shift blame somewhere else rather than blame Obama. As long as Obama pushes for big gov programs, the economy won’t hurt him. Our uneducated dolts and the educated useful idiots in country will always fawn over Obama. The only way that bond of trust and lust is broken is if Obama starts to govern like a true conservative.

From the link at post #44:

“I was just listening to the Stigall show this morning on 710AM (Kansas City). They called Wetherington’s Chocolate shop this morning....the store went out of business. It closed on April 18 according to a voice message left at the store’s number. “

Media Shenanigans PING

Dems 46%

Repubs 28%

A whopping 18% difference in oversampling. And even at that bogus number the internals are bad for zero.

Even more stilted. see page 21 and 22 for the sample size:

http://www.ap-gfkpoll.com/pdf/AP-GfK_Poll_Topline_April_2009.pdf

28% Republican was 9% heavy Republican + 9% moderate + 9% indep - lean Republican (note ~9 +~9 +~9 = 28).

46% Democrat was 16% heavy Democrat, 20% moderate, 10% indep - lean Democrat.

Biased sample to say the least.

7% "Indep - Don't lean"

19% "Don't know" (note, this is DIFFERENT than "other party" of which there was no significant declaration, Libertarians will tell you they are Libertarians. Communists and Democrats will lie about party affiliation)
