I find it amusing that media actually gets curious over an "Idol" singer and her background, but refused to investigate the background of Obama when he was running for president. What is really suspect is the priorities of so-called journalists.

A day later, and I have to say, given the author, I'm still perplexed by this article. Being that this is the NY Post, I figured Callahan was just some curmudgeon who turned a suspicious eye on everything. I can appreciate that, and sure, I think it's worth reserving about 0.5% of your belief here to see if Susan Boyle is the real deal. But Callahan bought the Obama phenom hook, line, and sinker. Were she to have written an article raising questions about a presidential candidate's lack of experience, knowledge, principles, and respect -- indeed, were she to have dug under the surface of another popular personality who could light a microphone -- *back in October* when that was low-hanging fruit, she'd have some credibility. I just don't how she could refrain from taking aim at a true fraud while raising a bunch of baseless questions about a talent-show competitor. It's truly strange.

Good post. Not surprising though. For decades the USSR has infiltrated our major institutions through their American ‘useful idiots’ and have ‘re-educated’ a generation of Americans into believing that socilaism/marxisim is better than the free market. It did not surprise me that Obama got elected and was not vetted by the MSM. They wanted him in because they agree with his socialist philosophy.
They could care less who his friends were. He could have broken bread with Beelzebub and they would have embraced him. No wonder a whole nation could have followed a leader like Hitler.

Oh, there are plenty of positive stories around— they’re just all about protected minorities. Any story where white and/or Christian folks happen to succeed is quickly explained away by the “fact” that such people only get ahead by oppressing others.

I'm just slightly over 50 and this is one of the big losses I see in our current culture compared to when I was a kid.

There is nothing out there showing that life is worth living. And this phenomenon is *not* accidental as I learned growing up and working in and around Hollywood and the Southern California Universities.

Even the most mild expression of optimism is "pollyanna." Only grief, doom and nihilism are "real." I hate this very much. If I weren't a big, tough conservative guy ;0) I might break down in tears at times when I see what passes for education and entertainment in this country today.

No, I think he’s implying that, but he’s obviously never watched Britain’s Got Talent. It’s an entirely different kind of show than American Idol. It’s more like the “Gong Show” than American Idol.

And what went on with Susan Boyle is totally consistent with what’s happened in past years to contestants, especially to Paul Potts.

The segments (at least in the first few episodes) are highly edited (in fact there’s a part of Susan Boyle’s song that’s been edited out.) But that’s how the show is done. The audience is similar to an old vaudeville audience, they boo and hiss even before a performance if they think the performer is going to be a joke. Only in the concluding episodes of the show does the audience vote.

There have been memorable performances come out of BGT, I have followed it on youtube these last 3 seasons. The acts come in all forms of entertainment from song, to dance, comedy, acrobatics, etc. This season there’s a hysterical act with a Greek guy and his 12 year old son. It’s a parody of Michael Flatly (of Riverdance fame) and the act is called Stavros Flatly.
