Rosa Brooks: Paranoid, rage-driven, xenophobic nuts are taking over the Republican Party

Paranoid, rage-driven, xenophobic nuts are taking over the Republican Party.

Liberals haven't had so much fun in decades.

Aside from the dwindling size of our 401(k)s, life is treating us well. True, we're heading into a major recession. But that's OK: That just presents us with new opportunities to Do Good. And while we wait for President Obama to bring us New Deal 2.0, we'll also get a few giggles out of watching the Bush administration preside over the nationalization of the nation's financial sector. (Tip: Practice saying "social democracy." Also, practice saying "Told ya so!" with compassion.)

Maybe most fun of all, we're getting to watch a steady procession of rats leaving the sinking GOP ship.

The media claims to have a protection from charges of treason as well.

Perjury, slander, libel, treason, death threats, and there are other examples of things that are not protected free speech. Regardless of the individual or title held.

Times v Sullivan protects the media unless McCain can show an intent to defame. No public figure, to my knowledge, has ever won a defamation suit under Times v. Sullivan.

Plus, McCain is such milque toast that he wouldn't bother to sue anyway.

I'm not so sure about treason. Times v. Sullivan protects the media from defamation claims by public persons.

I'm NOT defending the media here. They are a severe corruption of the Fourth Estate and should be reeled in. Frankly, when they openly endorse a candidate (and become the politician's mouthpiece) they are making a CORPORATE contribution, which is illegal under Federal campaign law. They should be prosecuted!!!

I don't know how much more of Obama's Amerika I can take... It started off to be "an outrage a day", now I can barely keep up with all the outrages.

WHAT is happening to our beloved country???

The men in black dresses are not infallible. They may establish precident but that doesn’t make them Constitutionally right.

What about Ginsberg?

Hey, I completely agree with your premise. We must hold the media accountable for their un-American actions. How can we focus our rage on the media and bring them down? Therein lies the root of corruption. Masquerading as the Forth Estate while, in fact, acting in treason with the Left.

The US media needs to be liberated from these tyrants, and fast!!!

“Liberals haven’t had so much fun in decades.”

For now maybe. There is a day coming when they won’t be having quite so much fun.

They will reap what they sow, and the better job they do nurturing their crop the more bountiful the harvest can be.

True...the SEALS met the Pirates (who lived in the dark ages)...and that had a happy ending...(note to DHS; this is not a threat of violence but a wish for happy endings...I am not a right wing fanatic)

What a great idea- and the thoughts of lefty’s heads exploding when they see them is funny. Such a small thing- great return.

I really don’t care what they label me. If being on the right side of things means I’m a God fearing, Bible reading, American loving gun nut, then so be it. And yes I am a right wing fanatic. I wear that badge proudly. Hey DHS, how many fingers am I holding up?

“Should I care what Rosa Brooks says? Who the Hell is she?”

She’s the new communist appointee who is advising in the Department of Defense, so, I guess that she might be of some significance...but, you may not care...sorry, I thought that came up somewhere in the thread...who she is, I mean, not whether or not you should care...and I’m pretty sure it has been in the news quite a bit...

We need to start dismantling the media. Peacefully, of course...
abb's Dinosaur Media DeathWatch™ threads indicate that dinomedia is perfectly capable and most willing to commit suicide all by itself. BTW, due to an accelerating death spiral each recent DeathWatch™ thread contains literally dozens of links to bad news about the "news" industry.

Obama Appointee Suggests Radical Plan for Newspaper Bailout
Thank you for saving me the trouble of searching for Ms Brooks' earlier story. Ms Brooks arguably projects her own feelings onto her "liberal" label. A judicious juxtaposition of Ms Brook's words seems to reveal the source of Ms Brooks' giddiness.
Liberals haven't had so much fun in decades. ... I'll be escaping a dying industry -- and your tax dollars will shortly be paying my salary -- I prefer to think of it as my personal government bailout. ... I feel lucky to parachute out before some cost-cutter eliminates every last column. ... we can watch, wringing our hands, as more and more top journalists are laid off ... "death spiral" ... the news industry has more or less collapsed ... A decimated, demoralized and under-resourced press corps
