Chimp Study Reveals Human Are Uniquely Wired

by Brian Thomas, M.S.*

Chimps are physically stronger than humans, as demonstrated in recent national news when a chimpanzee severely mauled a Connecticut woman. Police were forced to shoot and kill it after its owner failed to subdue it with a knife from her kitchen.[1]

Scientists are trying to find the source of this noteworthy strength in apes, and new research investigating the subject has turned up a uniquely human attribute...

Read the article and while I am not a creationist and I believe in the concept of adaptation of species over time to environmental pressures, I think that Chimps are not a descendant but more likely a cousin of the species that are out descendants.

I think that Humans are more than likely derived from a semi-aquatic Hominid species that dates back over 10 million years ago. The fine motor control referenced in the article would be a necessity for gathering food from coastlines, lakes, rivers and streams. Gathering foodstuff from the ocean coast may have required delicate hand control to prevent getting stung by creators of the sea which have deadly toxic stingers.

It's no doubt worthwhile to figure out why we are not chimps, but why not figure out why chimps are not people.

Someone should just go into that cage and start poking and prodding ~ check 'em out.

Creator specially made humans with features that set them apart from all other living things. And research has revealed uniquely human features that support the creation concept.

also faculty of reason and ability to conceptualize

Interesting. One could rationalize from an evolutionary view that tool use has driven the need for fine motor skills. But such abilities would also be useful without tools, and chimps use tools to some degree as well. If anything I would expect that natural selection would push chimps harder for such skills, because the rise of technological aids in human society has reduced any selective influence on such motor skill development; if anything I would expect declining fine motor capabilities in the human population.

The finer motor capabilities look to be a combination of biomechanical adaptations and control (neural) adaptations. There is no point in having one without the other, so it would not be reasonable to conclude that these could evolve without an intelligent designer, even without know the further details of the complexity involved.

Almost any animal, pound for pound, makes the most muscular human look like a weakling.

I don’t know... Most humans I know are also uniquely weird! (myself included - if I count as human) ;-P

It is easy to develop such rationalizations (and they are a dime a dozen in evolutionary speculations). But are there not scores of creatures living in such niches that lack such adaptations? For example, I wouldn't describe a seal as having such adaptations, or a walrus, or semi-aquatic critters like hippos, etc. I could be wrong, but would suggest seeking some confirmatory evidence for the story thus spun.

All good points. I’m off to go sailing off the coast of sunny...err...partly cloudy S. California. I will be back to post some more once I am done enjoying and marveling at God’s wondrous creation! :o)

“Almost any animal, pound for pound, makes the most muscular human look like a weakling.”

Growing up on a Farm I know firsthand this is true.

The Gal with the chimp, the gal who did the polar bear swimming, any other person who gets themselves hurt by animals due to ignorance on their part must not have grown up on a farm.

You must understand how offensive the idea of being descended from chimps is to a believer in creation. We believe the we are made in the image of God. Evolutionary theory instead teaches we are descended from, like made in the image of, some sort of ape or monkey. It replaces the God of the universe with a chimp of all things. It’s just horrible for us.

“go into that cage and start poking and prodding”

Not necessary.

In the lost Book of Umgowah, Chapter 5
verse 1. “Seeing it was not good for the Lord of the Apes to be alone, GGG created a plain Jane from his rib, and then a lesser ape to act as chaperone.
2. “And Tarzan named the ape `Cheetah’.”
3. “And Jane’s heart was striven with jealousy, and she did slay Cheetah.”

But god could design the basic blueprint of life to be able to adapt and carry information on to the next generation and slowly improve upon itself. Maybe God created DNA and gave it the occasional nudge here and there. Maybe he didn’t. I am the kind of person who requires testable results first and faith second. I am also really saddened by how much pure science has been mis-used and ignored in the whole global warming religion.

To me, science should be the kind of thing that is performed by 50’s looking guys with buddy holly type glasses in white lab coats and the occasional mad scientists type. Not tie dye T-shirt wearing philosophy majors in liberal arts collages.

Interesting topic. I had a friend "Luche" who was much more diminutive than I in upper chest musculature, but he was a lot stronger than me. I always wondered why his muscles were physically smaller than mine, but he was so strong. Perhaps the answer is in here somewhere.

Hi Luche.

FWIW, I only object when animal behavior, especially primate behavior, is used to promote what amounts to a left-wing political agenda. I don't go to the Bible for answers to biological questions just as I don't go to science for answers to moral questions.

As a religious person, I find the similarities between apes and humans fascinating but hardly threatening to my humanity.

And thus, opening the door to all sorts of abhorrent behavior, because after all, "we are JUST animals". How strange it must be to have a world view that puts ones self on the same level as a dog, or a cow, or a sheep, or even a monkey.

It is also offensive to a believer in evolution. No one (who is properly informed) believes humans evolved from chimps. Check the cladogram yourself if you don't believe me.
