Just a moment ago, Bob Shrum proclaimed that the tea parties are not "protests", but "squeaks". He further stated that anti-tax sentiment may be there in certain segments, it is nowhere near a majority, and has waned over the years. He said 10 years ago, anti-tax protests were far more momentous (think of it like an oil field; a strong opening, but a gradual depletion over time).
Shrum also said the GOP was in "deep trouble" and would not repeat 1994. He cited demographics and the shrinking Republican party. He said there will always be conservatives who are anti-tax, but they are severely outnumbered by Obamabots and are essentially irrelevant. He says conservatives are a dying breed and will not be an electoral force anytime soon.
I'm playing devil's advocate, and I'm not sure he's right. I'm praying he's wrong.
Well now gee! If Bob Shrum sez so, it MUST be true...
Has Bob Schrum ever run a success campaign ? - no.
It’s dead, Jim. And, I say that as one who has been an activist and GOPer for over 35 years.
I remember these guys saying the same thing in 1993.
The thing is, he will still receive a paycheck when he is wrong.
The a$$hole is right. We are irrelevant at present, as presently constituted. However — if this Texas thing gets some wings, we could have a huge red-state impact; one like we’ve not seen since the Civil War.
Who is Bob Shrum? Is he the token “conservative” for someone?
Right now things are really dire, it’s almost best to just lay back and not do things that get media attention.
It’s not going to help right now to make a fuss about stuff in this way.
I think we’re gonna lose 2010 pretty bad, and hussein will get 8 years easy. We might recover a bit in 2012, but it’ll be hard.
He may be right, only because the percentage of people who pay no income tax is pretty large anymore. They don’t vote conservative.
Racial politics, illegals, vote fraud, and wealth transfers make up a formidable coalition. It will take Divine providence and a lot of hard work to overcome it.
This is encouraging news.
Sadly I somewhat agree, GWB really sucked the life out of many folks I know who used to be Rep’s.
But we shall see, it’s only been 90 some days and life is beginning to stir a bit, not a ton, but a bit.
Bob Shrum is a professional spinmeister. Please. The generic party ballot is showing Republicans equal or better than Democrats. You better believe they are quakingin their boots. This is a set up to repeat 1994. Of course, they have to say it is not the same. I think it will be even bigger, given the public protests.
If y’all are right, then I recommend giving up. I recommend immediately closing your FR accounts too. There’s no point. Might as well play golf if it’s a lost cause.
Why.
It may be the better that we’ve moved beyond simple ‘anti-taxism’: we’re back to a Reaganesque small government and liberty agenda—and that, I believe, is a winner.
(The Republicans’ problem, of course, is that so few of their elected officials adhere to such Reaganesque principles...)
I wish I could remember every dewey-eyed optimist who took me to task for my "provincial" opinions on the US's policy of allowing massive immigration, just to see if they'd have the principle to admit they were wrong.
LOL you sign on 10 days ago to post that.
You give up real easy newbie.
