I haven't even attended my local TP yet, but Obama has already pre-empted them with a speech that effectively moves the discussion away from the TP issues to his own, tax breaks (some) to the majority of taxpayers (50% don't pay any taxes at all), taking away tax breaks for the rich (resonates with most voters) and streamlining the tax code (won't happen but sounds good).
Sorry TP organizers, but you only have yourself to blame for framing these rallies based on taxes in general instead of focusing them on 1. the criminal activity that spawned the economic crisis, 2. out of control government borrowing, 3. the deficit and 4. who/how it is going to be paid.
Tea Party participants know what they are about, but those who don't won't have a clue and now Obama's comments will be thrown in the face of every point you try to make. If the purpose of the TP's was team building then that may still get accomplished, but if it was bringing your message to the masses then that might now get a little harder.
I hope I'm wrong, but the Obama Admin was ready for this and might have effectively muted the message and effectiveness of this first volley from the TP'ers.
A pilot has to know the condition of his ship.
His body language was horrible. Fear, anger, etc.
The TEA Parties are being protested much more for out of control spending than they are for taxes, though taxes play a very large role in the matter.
The TV has to be on to hear him.
I watched it too and couldn’t disagree with you more. He’s worried. Even his teleprompter bailed on him today.
You and the MSM just don’t get it! Tyhe Tea Parties are not just about taxes!
I don’t think his little speech done in the middle of the day will pre empt anything. Most parties are taking place between 5pm-7pm and no one will see the TV news until 11pm tonight. If they were tryng to do that they should’ve made the speech yeaterday.
Anyone named LIPTON is banned from the White House today
Unless he came up with the idea, he always thinks it’s a waste of time and effort.
LOL! Agree wholeheartedly!
Have not talked to you in a while, but you are being a killjoy here. I am going to mine in NYC.
Now is the time to buck up. We will not get too many more chances until 2010.
Hey, ‘Bob J’, put down your coolaid and start your *lonnng* overdue dose of reality: You *can’t* quash or quiet the Grass Roots—it’s *bigger* than all of us!
Pundits are not needed. Marchers are.
He spoke for about 10 minutes. We are just about to let our voices be heard.
Would it be wrong to start calling it a "taxeprompter"?
this tea parties are the first volley of the true patriots that will not allow this country to follow in the footsteps of Venezuela, clearly where obama wants to take it.
“framing these rallies based on taxes in general”
eXACTLY. wHO CARES ABOUT TAXES WHEN THEY JUST BORROW MORE “MONEY”?
i SAID TO PEOPLE IT WAS RIDICULOUS TO BASE IT ALL ON TAX.
Some people were like “Taxed Enough Already”. It’s not even ABOUT taxes.
Redundant speeches, even from a president, fall on deaf ears.
Hey Zero, quit campaigning like a radical totalitarian dictator. Say what you will about Bush, at least he realized that the American citizens had the right to gather peacefully against what they think is unfair!
This nutcake (ZERO) uses scare tactics to advert any opposition...what a LOSER! It’s called freedom you IDIOT! i am amazed every time he attacks private individuals...Unbelievable!
