"Probably in line with that Law Of The Sea Treaty (LOST)."

That was GWB's favored project, wasn't it?

If Bill Clinton would have finished the job with Somalia, rather than turning tail and running away from that festering rathole which has now become an international threat.

The ship was never “hijacked”. Please read the news article before posting.

Inital releases said it was hijacked. As more information came out a few minutes later more was learned but the article was already posted. Actually several were same title by different posters. The media updates the story but headline poster puts up on FR only changes if Moderators later on do so.

How do these pirates get aboard anyway...I mean, you’re a huge tanker and you’re underway. Do these ships stop and wait to be boarded for fear of taking small arms fire? I sure as hell wouldn’t...I’d go full steam ahead.

Dubya did a good job keeping us safe. The pirates didn’t test him.

I wonder if there is an increase in aid to Kenya since 20 Jan. Two US flag ships recently attacked by pirates, both carrying food aid to Kenya.

Oooh, Navy SEAL snipers...

I actually looked into the SEALs to see what the requirements were for joining. (no way no how would I qualify, unfortunately)

And don't get me wrong, I think the M1A/M14 type guns are really cool.

M2's would just be such great weapon for ship defense!

A job I'd gladly volunteer for. (Not like that'll happen)

Our merchant vessels could use a marine version of this Gatling gun.

“Beacause they have to report the weapon in every port they arrive in.. it’s a HUGE hassle. Int’l Law I believe.”

I don’t see why that would be a problem.

The crew could be armed up to the point where they pulled into port, and then throw the weapons overboard. Better than that They could sink them in a waterproof container just before entering port, and retrieve them on the way out of port.

“Is there any requiriment against dousing them with gasoline and setting them on fire? “

Do you think these pirates are taking no other action than climbing up ropes? They’re shooting automatic weapons and RPGs. Pop your head up, and you’re gonna draw a lot of fire. I do know that one ship’s crew was successful doing what you’re suggesting, but that’s just not gonna work very often. Another ship recently avoided boarding by having razor wire all around. But to me, these sound like last ditch attempts. Escorted convoys for ships passing through the area will help a lot. But ships with more local ports of call? I don’t know what to do! I don’t think we’ll start carpet bombing the pirate’s towns. Gotta find and identify the “mother ships” that are towing these “fishing boats.,” and board them for weapons inspection. If they resist? Then it sux to be them. Blast away.
