Do you think these pirates are taking no other action than climbing up ropes? They’re shooting automatic weapons and RPGs. Pop your head up, and you’re gonna draw a lot of fire. I do know that one ship’s crew was successful doing what you’re suggesting, but that’s just not gonna work very often. Another ship recently avoided boarding by having razor wire all around. But to me, these sound like last ditch attempts. Escorted convoys for ships passing through the area will help a lot. But ships with more local ports of call? I don’t know what to do! I don’t think we’ll start carpet bombing the pirate’s towns. Gotta find and identify the “mother ships” that are towing these “fishing boats.,” and board them for weapons inspection. If they resist? Then it sux to be them. Blast away.

This is a classic case of “You get more of what you subsidize.” In this case, lack of affirmative action is the subsidy. Once these pirates start seeing extreme prejudice, this crap will stop. Like I said, countermeasures such as flame throwers sill surely discourage unwanted boarders. Other situations will require different solutions, along with rising expenditures as warranted.
