This is my first post here in a long time. Since my last post, back in 2001, I have worked on a few campaigns for local conservative candidates, I've been a candidate, and I have been on my local Republican Executive Committee. I also publish a local elections blog in which I give all local candidates a username and password so they can blog with impunity at no cost in a local forum where people are looking for them.
What has been so frustrating is seeing how conservatives will make a big show of outrage over some government wrongdoing, but do absolutely nothing about getting conservatives elected. And if we don't get elected, we don't matter.
Will these tea parties be just another event for the scrap book? Will they just be places to vent? If we are smart, it will be a chance to get names and get organized. These people who show up also know sympathizers who aren't showing up. All these people need to start working on getting a new Congress in 2010. And they also need to be thinking of the long haul: getting local conservatives elected to local offices, who can move up the food chain over the next decade.
We desperately need elected officials who represent the people! I am so sick of waiting for the next benevolent millionaire with an R next to his name to fight my battles. Won't we start promoting the candidates who come from our own ranks? Do we not respect ourselves?
Consider running for public office. Help those who do. Show that you still believe in America by using your rights for something other than waving a sign or listening to talk radio.

.....Will they just be places to vent? .....
Yes. Conservatives resent organizational efforts.
Be that as it may, my effort at the local T party will be handing out leaflets promoting Free Republic
Do these people work? I can’t see how they can attend when management is looking for people to cut and cutting work might just be the reason they are looking for. I am not saying this is a bad idea, but why not on a Saturday? You would have more people and people would not be cutting work. Of course most who show up are probably welfare recipients anyway. Change the day to Saturday and you will have a huge turnout.
There will be plenty of folks there. It’s called a vacation day. Which one will you be attending?
At a Tea Party? Not likely.
Do a little research before slandering good peope. For example, the Atlanta Tea Party starts at 7:00pm.
...not a good assumption
This was asked constantly during the election when people would show up for campaign rallies. Why is this different??????????????????????????

You make a very good point.
Why yes, we do. We, your fellow FReepers, are these people.
Cutting work?
No, I'm taking a day off - as it turns out, one of my unpaid days off that my employer has asked me to take in exchange for a pay cut - but if that hadn't happened, I would be using a regular vacation day.
most who show up are probably welfare recipients anyway
At a tax protest? No, we're not welfare recipients, just people who feel committed enough to the conservative cause to use some time off to advance it, the same way I took two weeks of vacation over the fall election cycle to try and save us from the situation we're now in.
Organizing...we the people in WNC are organizing like crazy under the auspices (sp?) of the 9-12 Project - nine principles/12 values - very simple - uniting FOR something rather than AGAINST something, even though there are plenty of issues we are against. But there is strength and unity in organizing around those things we believe in.
Our group in WNC is tackling political reform from the bottom up. Too much corruption exists on both sides of the aisle in DC. We are also educating community about our Constitution and other founding documents...plus other major relevant issues regarding security and outreach.
Check out the 9-12. We plan to do outreach at the tea party.
I am on Easter Break (referred to as Spring Break by the administration at the school where I teach.)
Yes, tea parties are just parties and will not provide anything but a place to congregate and vent. Conservatives of the right need a new political party or they will lose yet again as the repulicans are so worthless and are full of liberal leaders.
Run a conservative and he might get elected but the GOP is not going to run a conservative.
They are a barrel of rotten apples and liberal run.
“I am not saying this is a bad idea, but why not on a Saturday? “
Bad news cycle day.
Any of the local tea parties I can attend (I think three) start at 4:30-5:00. I think most do start later in the day—the organizers and most potential attendees do indeed work.
When these become “secession” parties, they will become more interesting.

ZX- I agree with your sentiments...
Don, get out of the past - step into the present - and do something about the future.
Maybe we did go to sleep..maybe we were hard at work and expecting our legislators to be hard at work too (for us), but we see we were wrong.
We overslept - the alarm has gone off - and now we have to scramble to do what needs to be done —SAVE THE REPUBLIC.
