Mayor Michael Bloomberg will run as Republican in bid for third term

Mayor Bloomberg will run for reelection as a Republican this fall, the Daily News has learned, after successfully courting the party to let him back on its ballot line two years after he left it.

"Mayor Bloomberg and I have had healthy disagreements over issues at times, but I know he is the right person to lead this city forward," said Jay Savino, chairman of the Bronx GOP, who followed his Brooklyn and Staten Island counterparts to become the third county chairman to back the mayor.

Bloomberg twice ran for mayor as a Republican, but quit the party in 2007 when he was contemplating an independent run for President. He is still a registered Independent, and thus needed permission from a majority of the five party chairmen to run on their line.

FU - BloomTURD!!

Remember .. before he was an Independent, and before
that he was a “””Republican”””, and BEFORE THAT,
He was a DEMOCRAT, but wasn’t QUITE LIBERAL ENOUGH to win a DEM PRIMARY.
Being NOT QUITE AS LIBERAL AS A NYC LIBERAL, Does NOT MAKE you Conservative Enough to be a REPUBLICAN..

RETIRE you EFFING RINO, and take McLAME WITH YOU!!

Oh pooh. If he wins it will be a miracle. Afterall, Bloomberg only gets paid a dollar for his services as Mayor. At the rate he is going, a dollar is too much.

"Mayor Bloomberg...is the right person to lead this city forward," said Jay Savino, chairman of the Bronx GOP

You, Mr. Savino, are an idiot and a RINO.

I shall never call myself a republican again.

Perhaps we should begin using your term as opposed to rino?
It would probably be the most accurate if the truth be told.

He is and has always been a RINO, he IS a democrat... backed by his record!

I can’t get far enough away from cities. The only one I’ve ever been in that I really liked was Quebec.

He was a democrat and couldn't get elected. Changed to Republican to run on Rudy's coattails. Then changed to Independent. Now, he thinks the GOP brand is going to be good, so he's going to change yet again. By any name, he is a liberal democrat. A chameleon doesn't change this much!

Yeah...the Republican Party IS a joke. They allowed the media to name their last presidential nominee...and then appeared shocked when that same media turned on him within 72 hours of the nomination.

I have moved on...I voted Libertarian last November...not that I am one...it just offered the best choice given the two liberals chosen by the media for the two parties.

The GOP blew it in 1995...elected to do the Contract With American...they could have changed everything...instead of abolishing the executive washroom...they just changed the lock on the door.

I won’t be fooled again.

“Announcing layoffs of City workers isn’t going to help him, raising the tax on cigarettes and raising property taxes aren’t going to help him either.”

And the sheeple will now associate these moves with Republicans - great.

He was a Democrat before he was a Republican before he was an Independent. In New York, I guess it doesn’t matter. They all think the same way (Tax and Spend).

"Please accept my resignation. I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member." Groucho Marx / Micho Bloomberg --

"Now, he thinks the GOP brand is going to be good, so he's going to change yet again."

This move is as predictable as the tides. Prediction: Bloomers, with his finger always to the wind, is the first of what will be many well-known rats (on all sides) to jump ship in an effort to save their careers by distancing themselves from their party before it floats into 2010 Bay.

I hear ya.

I'm a conservative, not a Republican . . . so I have no concerns about party affiliation or any of these internal Republican Party workings at all.

Having said that, I'd point out that Bloomberg is likely an ideal leader for New York City . . . mainly because New York City isn't American in any way. It's a Third World city where the primary role of government is to deal with hordes of peasants from all over the world and keep the place safe and secure for the small number of elite, wealthy people who want to live there.

Applying American principles of government and party politics to a place like New York City is an exercise in futility.
