NEW YORK (AP) -- It sounds crazy: Just a week after the White House scolded Chrysler LLC for relying too much on gas guzzlers, the company is heading to a marquee auto show Wednesday to unveil a new SUV. Chrysler insists the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which clocks in at 20 mpg in its two-wheel-drive version and 19 in four-wheel-drive, is a crowd favorite and a crucial part of its lineup.

I guess profitable does not mean much to this idiot.
Oh, he and the other elites wouldn’t have to “stash” anything. Their supporters readily will give them a pass for not abiding to the rules they set for everyone else.
Maybe ACORN will stage a demonstration outside Chrysler, and send them death threats. That’s in keeping with our new political order.
Jeeps are the only Chrysler products worth a damn.
Don't ask. You don't wanna know.
But in case you do.. Jeep also produces cheap Dodge knock-offs that are marketed to chicks.
I beg to differ. My X gets 23 Highway.
Hmmm....
Looks a lot like our ‘lil Mariner—same color too.
Aside from a PU, I personally regard an suv as about the most American modern vehicle available!
Other than the gas mileage (15 MPG tops) I have no complaints with my 2004 Ram 1500 Hemi. I really don't want to drive anything else - especially not a deathtrap little buggy that the gubmint is pushing on everybody.
Hold on there JenB987. I am pretty happy with my Quad Cab Dodge Ram 1500 with a Hemi Engine. Og by the way, I forgot to mention that in my part of the country, a Gun Rack is standard equipment for a pickup.
Man, that does look good! Can you get it with the HEMI?
We have a Buick Rainier with the V8, and it is fabulous to drive. Handling is rather, well, Buick like, but when you need to get out of your own way, it sure will.
That new Grand Cherokee might be a nice replacement.
This obsessive self-loathing mentality, with its attendant guilt over prosperity and personal wealth, is overtaking the county and pressuring all business towards self-destructive decisions. Of course, Chrysler produced a vehicle that people want to drive; they would be idiots not to do so.
Sig Sauer Academy, May 2, 2009. Can’t wait!
That doesn't look like an SUV at all.
Its more along the lines of the very popular Honda CRV.
And the gas mileage is comparable to the CRV.
There's more to this "scolding" than we're lead to believe.
Government asserting its control over Chrysler?
Next type of vehicle to be demonized?
Whether we NEED, as in your case, or just WANT them, as in mine, (Explorer, Escape) it’s none of the government’s f-—ing business!
They can go to hell. I’m keeping my two “hybrid crushers”.
I average about 5000 Miles a year on each one.
They both look like they never left the dealership.
I drive my cars till they can’t go anymore.
I’ll have these vehicles long after Obummer is a faded punchline and a pathetic memory in this country.
Sports cars of course. Corvettes, Mustangs, Challengers, the new Camaro.. etc.
AP is actually fostering ignorance with that asinine lead.
A major news outlet that has abandoned any pretense of impartiality or quality.
Yahoo: a boorish, crass, or stupid person.
Well, gee... After being scolded by the government last week, they should have just re-jiggered their designs and production schedules so they could have introduced a new small car at the auto show. I mean, they’ve had five whole days... Seven if you count the week-end! How long does it take?!?
I don’t want you to assume that we aren’t a Dodge family.
Husband has a Ram 2500 Cummins...6 in. lift, 35 in tires, straight piped, 2 performace boxes, water injection. We love our truck. My husband has also owned 3 other Dodge trucks, 3 of them diesels. The 2 newest ones have had the most problems. 2003 dually had the tranny and the engine replaced within 12,000. Truck didn’t make it to 70,000 before he had to get rid of it. Our current truck has had front end problems for the past 1.5 years. Everything from stock parts to aftermarket parts have been replaced. Does this thing called a “death wobble”. After researching it, it’s a common problem that lots of Dodge truck (diesel, gas or Hemi; lifted or not lifted) have been having. Can’t figure it out. Put butt loads of money into the problem and never had it fixed. Dodge won’t touch the problem.
I used to have a 2004 Jeep Liberty. LOVED my Liberty. But at $4/gallon gas last year and only getting 14 mpg, it had to go.
I now have a 2008 Dodge Avenger which is the biggest hunk of crap, plastic and sheet metal on 4 tires.
My Father-in-law just bought a new Dodge 1500 and it went back into the shop 4 weeks after buying it for complete rehaul of the electrical system. Truck shut down in the middle of the highway.
I’m talking from experience with Chrylser products. You are fortunate that you have a nice truck without problems. However, that’s not everyone’s fortune.
Only reason my husband continues to buy a Dodge truck is because he loves the Cummins engine and won’t buy anything without it running his truck. I bought my car because I was foolish enought o believe that I would get more for my trade of the Jeep at a Chrylser dealership. Never again.
My wife works with someone who says she gets under 20. The Xterras don’t have much of a rep for mileage. Who knows? Different years I guess.
Still, 20 is pretty good for a bigger SUV.
