So a quite personal question -- what did you learn from your personal talk with the European leaders? And did this change in a certain way your views on Europe and its politics?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: It's an interesting question. I had already formed relationships with many of them. ... There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian -- wheeling and dealing -- and, you know, people are pursuing their interests, and everybody has their own particular issues and their own particular politics.

Oh my... That’s news to me.

It's Austrian German, also called Austrian. The difference is more than accent, apparently. There's also a language in Switzerland known as Swiss. I suspect it's German Swiss, but I'd have to look it up. ;-)

Wiki's OK when it's not used as a primary source -- especially if the subject bears even remotely on the political. Generally, you had best get four or five other sources to corroborate Wiki before you can trust it.

My best friend who went with me and others to W Germany yrs back, later went on to Austria, since they spoke Germanthere too. MAYBE I know more than the average Joe about Austrian not being a language, but surely the media could have picked it up UNLESS they zone out listening to the Obama pontificate. He is VERY boring.
