I'm pretty sure he is kissing the muzzy ring. He's way too close in to be bowing, has dropped one knee in the classic ring kiss pose, and is exactly where he'd need to be to kiss a ring that was slightly extended. That, and he's not bowing, which would be with both legs straight, and just the torso bent over, and at a respectful distance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't heads of state only do that to other heads of state at the moment of the unconditional surrender of their country?

Agreed. Either he refuses to take instructions on protocol, or considers any kind of instruction as so demeaning that no one will try to advise him or his wife.

LOL — That’s the only thing I can’t say for sure... That dang aide was in the shot in the video I saw. Are there any other views that show it clearly? I did see the King’s hand is turned, and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
