A Mississauga family who tried to light a candle for Earth Hour nearly burned their Meadowvale townhouse down.

Afshan Khalid, 46, said her 8-year-old daughter tried to light a candle before Earth Hour started at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

“She was lighting up the candle and we thought it didn’t light up or the match fell somewhere that we didn’t notice and then we left,” said Ms. Khalid. The family was going to see friends and when getting ready, they lighted scented candles so they could see.

Serves them right, putting all those carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Now they should give their car away and start walking.

Cool.

Too bad every Earth Hour observer / whoreshipper didn't burn their house down.

A quick note: I would've pasted the whole thing, which is short, but that site has to be excerpted, so I cut it down to three paragraphs of 86 words.

The house didn't burn down, but a shelving unit burned, the upper floor has smoke damage, and someone estimates total damage as $15,000 Canadian.

It's a relief that the house didn't burn down. Among other things, just imagine all the horrible carbon that would've been released that way!

I thought this was satire. Leave it to the bleeding hearts to cause a comedy.

Very smart brainwashed environmentalists...light the match/candle, then LEAVE!?

They deserved this....but how dare they pollute the environment by contributing all that carbon to the air!

IMPRISON THEM! The globe heated .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 degrees F as a result!

They left lighted candles in an unattended house? Kinda points out the intelligence of those who were hot to trot about “Earth Hour”, doesn’t it?

And they didn’t realize that burning a candle releases CO2 into the atmosphere? Get with the program people; Gore wants you people living like like animals, now snap to it!

Still left one hell of a carbon footprint!

Actually, animals also exhale CO2 (and fart CH4). The Goron wants people to be VEGETABLES.

People familiar with matches know to track down a dropped match and to make sure it is out.Even if it means pouring a glass of water on the rug or crack in the floor. And the goofy scented candle people often have a bunch of dry flowers and frilly decorative items everywhere, all just waiting for a spark.
