St. Paul doesn't want gang bangers anywhere near fun family festivals this summer.
So, in a first-of-its-kind legal action in Minnesota, the city this morning filed papers in Ramsey County Court seeking to bar alleged members of the Sureno 13 gang from the city's Cinco de Mayo Fiesta May 1-2. Ten known leaders of the gang were served with court papers over the weekend, city officials said.
The action, which will need the approval of a Ramsey County judge, is allowed under a relatively new state law pushed by St. Paul to mirror crackdowns in other major American cities. Those cities, including some in Texas and California, have claimed success in lowering crime after taking the pre-emptive action, but civil liberties groups have criticized the laws.
Mayor Chris Coleman, City Attorney John Choi, Police Chief John Harrington and community leaders supporting the injunctions will hold a news conference at 2:30 p.m. today to discuss the filings, which seek to create a safe zone that the 10 individuals would be barred from entering.
In a news release, a Cinco de Mayo organizer said the injunctions will keep this year's festival safe.
"We applaud the city's efforts in reaching out to neighborhood groups to ensure that our community festivals continue to be safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike," said Chris Romano, of the Riverview Economic Development Association, the organizer of Cinco de Mayo Fiesta.

Somebody want to rell me why any American would want to celebrate a Mexican holiday?
Probably will work about as well as protective orders do in the case of abusive spouses in divorce situations. What is it about hard and long jail time being the solution that these descendants of Norwegian farmers don’t get?
Same reason we celebrate St. Pat's & Columbus Days - it doesn't hurt to remember where you came from. Besides, any excuse for a party's a good one.
Cerveza
So, why can they find these punks to serve them this notice, but not find them to arrest them under RICO charges, or whatever?
they feds are too busy serving RICO charges against Italians mobsters of a crime sometimes 20 years ago.
in the meantime the Hispanic and black gangs along with the Chinese in their community and the muslims having more than one wife, raping kids in mosques etc are free to do what ever they want because they fit under the umbrella of PC and the whack job left
this is, after all, a “sanctuary city”.
this is the “Minnesota Nice” way of dealing with gangs.(IE: stooopid)
But in the interest of diversity, they weren't taken into custody and immediately deported.
typical libtards: they treat terrorist like domestic criminals and domestic criminals like corporate miscreants.
So celebrating the Mexicans’ defeat of the French is akin to St Patrick’s day or Columbus day? Hogwash. It is a Mexican nationalist celebration, like the 4th of July. Patriotic and nationalist.
St. Patricks day and Columbus day are cultural.
cinco de mayo is a holiday used by the illegals to gather and gain strength. it is an insult ot Americans to sit and wacth all these illegals celibrate there nations holiday as if they are at home (and they think they is at home here) we get teh local governments making all sorts of parties, and parades, all in the name of multi-culturalism, meanwhile the nation is lossing its English language, illegals are voting, and many of them vote liberal, as they like socialism, and they are for the most part tax cheats, working illegally under the table, and stealing American health care, schools, and clogging our prisons.
this is a wreched holiday. I never want to see another cinco de mayo parade again. sick bastards they are. Try living in a place where the cinco de mayo parade is bigger than the Fourth of July parade, it is sick One more excuse for lazy mexicans to get drunk, and shot guns in the air.
No, seriously, this is the same kind of nonsense I see when a young man of my pale heritage cruises down the street and treats me to his 1.7 Jiggawatt car stereo playing Rap music. Makes me want to slap him so hard his baseball cap would spin around and land the right way on his head.
Noel Coward, Gilbert and Sullivan, bagpipes, Shakespeare, Monty Python, Irish jigs, Broadway musicals, the Saxons, the Normans, Sousa's marches, great American authors and thousands of years of accomplishments inside Western Culture to enjoy, and I've got to listen to somebody else's rap music!
I tell you, if I ever do hit the lottery, first thing, I'm buying a domestic car and tripping it out with an impressive sound system...and going downtown with my favorite bagpipe music blaring so loud it rattles peoples fillings a block away. And if anyone asks, I'll just say, "Hey, it's part of my culture! You are obligated to listen!" (It will have bulletproof glass as well.)
Ten known leaders of the gang were served with court papers over the weekend”
WoW that will do it...... or it will piss off the gang.
When I lived in Minneapolis, Syttende Mai was almost as big a deal as the 4th of July:

For Cinco de Mayo, every Carlos O’Kelly’s will be discounting that tasteless Corona beer - at least it’s not green. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an actual Mexican in Carlos’, have you?
Every ethnicity in this country has a holiday they celebrate - St. Pat’s & Columbus Day were just the two I thought of first. If I ever actually remembered, I’d celebrate St. David’s Day (Welsh, March 1).
Keeping the gangs out is one thing - telling people they should blow off their heritage is something else.
There was a guy on our block that played gangsta rap that loudly in his car. Every time he pulled in or out of the court, I cranked up Beethoven's Ninth on my stereo. He got the message eventually.
in the spirit of cultural diversity, I hope the writ was served in several languages.
I live in an area, western Wisconsin, where there is a high population of Norwegian-Americans. In May they have a day called Syttende Mai (Seventeeth of May) which celebrates Norway's independence from Sweden. Drive around some of the predominately Norwegian small towns and you will see a number of Norwegian flags. Especially Westby, Wisconsin. Their athletic teams are called "the Norsemen."
