Rap Is Crap

Today, [1] Grammy-winning rapper T.I. (Total Imbecile? Thug Idiot?) was sentenced to 18 months behind bars for illegally owning machine guns and silencers. In the aftermath of his arrest, prosecutors informed T.I. that he could serve two decades in prison; he quickly agreed to 1000 hours of community service, touring around the U.S. talking to teens about the problems with drugs and gangs. MTV made a show about him called [2] T.I.s Road to Redemption. This from a guy who dealt drugs as a teen and got busted for coke in 1998.
Heres the thing: no matter how many hours of community service T.I. does, it will never make up for the crap he puts into the minds of his listeners. His biggest hit is Whatever You Like. Heres a sample lyric Whatever You Like: Late night sex so wet youre so tight Let me put this big boy in yo life / The thang get so wet, it hit so right.

In my defense, it is exactly that kind of behavior that is at the heart of Hip-Hop/Rap culture and their "songs." I was just taking a cue from their "music," but I understand your point.
Trust me, I’m no fan of most new music now-a-days, and 90% of the hip-hop music put out is disgusting, to say the least. There’s a hypocrisy that exudes around topics like this and anytime we make a point using their logic, it’s twisted to look like our logic.
I understand your point, also. I just hate to see us conservatives and this site get a bad break because of liberal idiocy.
He performed at this year’s Houston Live Stock and Rodeo this month.
yeah, i think that’s him! He’s good!
That’s the man. He sounds great. And i never liked Hootie and the Blowfish.
My husband pointed out his single last night on the radio - pretty good. I didn’t recognize his voice until I was told who he was, and then of course it was unmistakable.
And he's making money doing a legitimate profession. He owns his own record label. Who cares about his past?
Heres the thing: no matter how many hours of community service T.I. does, it will never make up for the crap he puts into the minds of his listeners.
And I could say the same thing about rock and country music. Where was this author at when Marilyn Manson was spewing neo-Satanic crap and promoting a goth culture among suburban white teens?
Gang-banging hand signals on the teleprompter! lol!
Ahh, so since the author doesn't condemn EVERY possible bad thing in the music world he shouldn't talk about this subject?
Look, if neo-Satanic goth "culture" were as pervasive as is Hip-Hop/Rap then I could understand your concern.
I’ll admit, I like a lot of the rap from the 80’s, and even some early 90’s. Both the comedic and political had some musical value.
Agreed: Top rap albums ever:
1) It takes a Nation of Millions to hold us back—Public Enemy
2) Raising Hell-RUN DMC
3) The Message - Grand Master Flash
4) Black Sunday— Cypress Hill
5) The Chronic— Dr Dre
After the Chronic, rap jumped the shark......
Part of the decline of Black Society can be blamed on Rap. But it has had an even larger impact on white teens. Not just their pants have dropped to new lows. So has their grade point averages.
True dat. On the flip side though, a band named Phish did a cover of his "Gin 'n Juice" that is actually a song, with notes and actual melody and stuff. It is very funny and also musically competent.
My wife heard the Phish version 1st, and upon hearing the Snoop version later, commented "Well, this really IS cr@p".
Country music did not spring from Black Music. It is mostly from Bluegrass and folk tunes brought over from the Old Country mixed with a little influence from black music.
Ha. Good story. I heard snoop try to sing on some live show on the boob tube...and it weren’t pretty. Phish was pretty good as I recall.
Our culture celebrates youth. It MARKETS to youth. We old people are irrelevant, and will continue to be so until we put our foot down.
Sadly, "putting our foot down" now looks like it will take the form of civil war. We can fight and maybe sacrifice our lives to defend the values of our granparents, or submit and have the DJ at your granddaughters' wedding play "All Bitches R Ho's" by L.T. Glock, the hot new artist.
I've made my decision, just awaiting others to join in on the fun!
You are a gentleman and a scholar, yo!
That was probably Darius Rucker, formerly of “Hootie and the Blowfish” fame. He recently resurfaced in the Nashville country scene and appears to be doing quite well.
