Big Texas Win on “Critical Thinking”

March 27, 2009 — Students in Texas schools will now have more opportunities to hear the flaws in Darwinism as well as evidences for it. After months of acrimonious debate, the Texas State Board of Education adopted science standards that require students learn to “analyze, evaluate and critique scientific explanations” including theories of evolution and the origin of life.

The new language replaced the long-standing wording of teaching the “strengths and weaknesses” of evolution. Though Darwin critics were advocating to retain the old language (the website of Texans for Better Science Education is StrengthsAndWeaknesses.org), they feel the new language is even stronger. The general critical thinking language states:

They already do that in many universities. I don’t think High School students have enough of a knowledge base to have useful discussions about biology. There is barely enough time in class to finish going over the most basic concepts and terminology.

Despite the good intent, it is more regulation. Let the districts set their own policies, come hell or high water. No more regulations, state or federal on what must be taught.

I have always been open to alternative scientific theories to TTOE.

Too bad there aren’t any.

Fantastic - maybe Texas can move from indoctrination to education.

The problem is that Texas is the bellwether for textbooks nationwide. I think this decision is great considering the flaws found now in classic evolutionary theory.

What do you mean there aren't any. There are far better ones. You just refuse to acknowledge them. Here's one that has several hundred more scientific proofs established than TTOE.

I said scientific theories not philosophical ones. Those are certainly debate-worthy in the right context.

Hundreds of what? The fountains of the deep refers to the flood stories of most world wide mythos and the bible. That doesn’t count as hundreds of more sources.

There is no philosophical theory in that book.

But I guess you’d have to actually read it to discover that.

That’s the problem with close minded people. They see one word, “creation”, and right away form an opinion based on their own fear of discovering something that might shake the foundation of their beliefs. You have a lot in common with muslims.

As I have said in the ‘debates’ before the link from the creationist websites restates perfectly:
Page 426:
“Obviously, a debater’s credibility falls apart if it becomes clear that he has not read what he is criticizing.”

How many creationists have read anything about evolution outside of church circulars?

>>There is no philosophical theory in that book.
I read your passage — it is 100% fantasy.

>>But I guess you’d have to actually read it to discover that.

I did — it is not science. It is mostly complaints about how this guy can’t be heard out. There is a reason for that. If someone were to come to a debate about astronomy with an astrological chart as “proof,” that debate would never happen.

Have a blessed day.

No, it doesn’t refer to flood stories in the bible, other than to question them. The proofs are all science based, unlike TTOE.

As I said, you’d actually have to READ the book to discover what it really says. Closed minded people form their opinions as soon as the see the word in the title-”Creation”.

Darwin’s ToE is pure philosophy. Have you read Origins? It is nothing more than a long argument, devoid of data...which isn’t surprising, since nobody has actually observed (let alone repeated!) goo-to-you evolution.
