Sen. John McCain's daughter continued her all-out media tour with a stop on CNN's "Larry King Live" Tuesday night, voicing support for her father's campaign opponent, President Obama, but none for her Republican critics.
Meghan McCain, a columnist for TheDailyBeast.com, also tried to take the high road after conservative radio host Laura Ingraham had joked about the 24 year-old's weight last week.
"As far as I'm concerned with what's going on with Laura Ingraham, on my end, it's over," McCain told King. "There are nine million women in this country suffering from eating disorders. And I'm not going to be bullied around about my weight and what kind of standards I'm not fitting."
In the past few weeks since she started her career as a political columnist, McCain has angered conservatives - especially after she blasted pundit Ann Coulter, calling the author, "offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time." Ingraham had poked fun of McCain's weight on her radio show, then back-peddled on an interview with Fox News a few days later.
Meghan McCain's "progressive" - code for liberal in the eyes of many fellow Republicans - views on supporting gay marriage have also made her controversial among her party's base.
"I have taken heat, but in fairness to me, I am a different generation than the people that are giving me heat," McCain told King. "I'm 24 years old. I'm not in my 40s, I'm not in my 50s and older."
But perhaps her most controversial view as far as Republicans are concerned is her support for Obama to succeed as president.
"He's our president and when the election was over and when President Obama won, all negative feelings were gone," McCain said on the CNN show. "I support the president."
Meghan seems to think that transcendent God-given rules of right and wrong change over time...
From the way he ran his campaign,
yes, I believe McCain is and was pro-Obama.
I don’t know. It would fit.
What has “the GOP” had to say about how Ms. McCain’s speaking out publicly is, or is not, “helping the GOP cause”???
They want Dick Cheney to shut up and go away. I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t just lovin’ Ms. Meghan’s deep, thoughtful, and knowledgeable political commentary. (I mean, totally, you know???)
“I am also pro-attention getting,
pro-giving opinions no one asked for,
pro-keeping my 14:59 of fame going,
and pro-all you can eat buffets”
So in other words...she’s a Democrat. I’m not going to bash her, but she needs to stop with the act and just admit that she’s not a conservative.
And someone needs to tell Meghan that its not just the old farts that are saying it. I’m only a few years older than she is.
An Ivy-League education is the most worthless and abused calling card in politics. If you are the child of an Ivy League senator, you're getting into that school, even if you have rocks in your head. Just ask Manbearpig or any of the Kennedy diaspora.
There might be 9 million women in the USA with eating ‘disorders’, but there are over 50 million voters with a severe ‘fact’ disorder who voted for NObama.
If I were McCain, I would be re-writing my will and this ungrateful woman would get nothing or just $1...a dollar that will be worth about 30 cents when her hero NObama gets thru ruining the American economy.
She’s 24— when do we think she will grow up and get a clue???
Nothing like no life experience, and being so sure of all your positions on everything!!!
All these NObama supportors are in for a big shock when they find there is no room for them when the economy tanks.
Nothing like being a trust fund baby with an absolute absence of brains.
Not really. Like most kids (including myself a looooong time ago) she can’t imagine them existing at all.
For most of us, as we get older, we figure it out. With help if we’re lucky, by experience if we’re not.
If Meghan McCain was honest and serious about her intentions, she’d spend her time stating the Republican positions that she agrees with and why. That’s how you build credibility. Then, if she wanted to go off the reservation once in a wile (like George Will) Republicans would be more likely to cut her some slack, because she’s built some credibility.
I suspect that her problem lies in the fact that she doesn’t have many real Republican views that she can state believably.
She looks like John Belushi in drag.
Megan, why not have a lesbian affair with Kathleen Parker? You both seem to have similar politics and it might give you another 15 minutes of attention.
The rotted apple is found near the tree it fell from.
What a braindead twat.
She klinda looks like that fat Dixie Chick.
She is clearly being used by liberals as a brain-dead example of conservatives, although she’s clearly not a conservative, never has been. It’s just a shame that Republicans tied their wagon to John McCain who naturally would have a daughter that is confused as he is.
Basically, everyone is laughing at her - on both sides. She’s just to dumb to notice.
I stated, in front of a 60 yr old liberal BSF,
that God’s moral laws and consequences
are as immutable as His physical laws,
and it caused her to short out - angry.
When people get angry, you’ve often stated a truth, and they know it.
She’s a twit, but don’t make fun of her weight. It is demeaning to you. Moreover, I’ve met her and she is more attractive in person, at least until she says something.
Chit she doesn't have an eating disorder. Obviously, the mechanics of her eating are completely functional, exemplary even!
