House Passes Mandatory National Service Bill The House passed a bill yesterday which includes disturbing language indicating young people will be forced to undertake mandatory national service programs as fears about President Barack Obama’s promised “civilian national security force” intensify.

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.

Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled “Duties,” in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Section 120 of the bill also discusses the “Youth Engagement Zone Program” and states that “service learning” will be “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency”.

“The legislation, slated to cost $6 billion over five years, would create 175,000 “new service opportunities” under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in the national volunteer program to 250,000. It would also create additional “corps” to expand the reach of volunteerism into new sectors, including a Clean Energy Corps, Education Corps, Healthy Futures Corps and Veterans Service Corps, and it expands the National Civilian Community Corps to focus on additional areas like disaster relief and energy conservation,” reports Fox News.

The Senate is also considering a similar piece of legislation known as the “Serve America Act”, which also includes language about “Youth Engagement Zones”.

I will absolutely GUARANTEE you that welfare drones will NOT be required to work.

Welfare reform, after all, has been FULLY REPEALED in the Porkulus bill.

This cannot be Constitutional at all.

But Obama has said (TV interview in Chicago 7 or 8 yrs. ago)that our Constitution was written flawed. He, in all his wisdom and mercy, intends to fix it and the US and make everything stronger and better than ever.

When he said hope and change, he gave media and citizens a blank canvas and they painted the scene they wanted. His actual stronger and better America is a totalitarian state in which freedom is squelched and all decisioins are made by the commissariat.

The more this goes on, the more I think we are living Orwell’s vision in 1984...

For example, “toxic assets” are now called “legacy assets”

Words we can no longer use?
“terrorist” “Enemy combatants,” “War on Terror,”
the list goes on.

In terms of this legislation, the last time I checked VOLUNTEERISM is NOT mandatory. In our school now, we have a senior service day which is VOLUNTARY. The kids that don’t want to do it simply don’t! I guess that will no longer be the case.

Sounds a lot like East Germany or Cuba.

OK, so what if the “hardship exemptions” somehow exempt most of the base that you’re talking about?

Then Oboma hasn't changed a thing. The "army" becomes right wing. These are the kids who will end up as taxpayers, and they'll be well trained. They won't want to work 40-60 hours a week so the democrats can feed off them. They'll become a tax payer army, right?

Yes, I think that was the original author’s point too.

I don’t buy that.

The public schools are an example of “soft indoctrination”, and somewhere on the order of 90% of evangelical families’ kids lose their faith (ie, become secularists) before their sophomore year in college due to this indoctrination.

How much more would they be indoctrinated if the main focus of their “education and training” was to be good little Obamunists?

I think I will be sending my kids to new Zealand if this crap comes into law.

I served my country, but i did so because i chose to do it. Nobody should be forced to do so.

The other day the Black Caucus in GA. walked out because the GOP refused to support a statement IN A BILL supporting Barach 0bama.

God save us all, and stock pile that ammo. BTW what are you going to say when these Hitler Youth come to your house and demand your firearms and Ammo? ... and when they search with a “pre signed” search warrant if one is even necessary?

Maybe adults do “owe” something, but that is a far cry from passing laws mandating such for freemen who take nothing.

>But I did not forsee a renewal of the Hitler Youth Corps coming to my town.

STOP. Stop, Think, Observe, Plan.
Think.

The public schools are an example of “soft indoctrination”,

This has been going on since the '60's. So why is half the nation still voting Republican? In my opinion, things change when these kids grow up and start paying taxes. They become more conservative once they have their own kids.

Should be called the “Give-Away” act — as in, give-away money to enough constituencies to pass the bill.

If it's mandatory, it's not service. It's servitude. Hasn't that been outlawed? Someone ought to challenge this on 13th amendment grounds.

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Or how about the 13th amendment?

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Anyone who supports this is, in essence, saying
“the government has a right to come and forcibly take your kids, and to KILL YOU if you resist”.

"Republican" does not necessarily mean "Conservative".

I've been made painfully aware of that, over the years, by the actions of George W. Bush and the Republican-led Congress. And the R's have obviously not learned their lesson after two thrashings by the Dems.
