Offshore Oil Drilling Ban Will Be Restored By Any Means Necessary, Even Civil War - Dem Congressman

The ban on offshore oil drilling that expired last September will be restored by “any means necessary,” Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.), who serves on both the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, told CNSNews.com on Friday.

Inslee, who participated in a conference entitled "Planning for a Secure Energy Future” sponsored by the Washington Post, also recommended a ban on future drilling in the arctic, where he says there is a “gold rush” for oil uncovered by melting ice caps.

But Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.), who serves on the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming and also attended the conference, told CNSNews.com that offshore oil drilling should provide an integral part of American energy and recommended the Interior Department begin distributing offshore oil drilling leases.

Back in June, President George W. Bush lifted an 18-year-old executive order banning new offshore drilling that had been put in place by his father, President George H.W. Bush, and extended by President Bill Clinton.

At the end of September 2008, Congress – then in the midst of crafting a $700-billion financial bailout and facing nationwide pressure to lower gas prices and remove the ban – allowed a 26-year-old moratorium of offshore oil drilling that had been annually attached to the Interior Department funding bill, to expire.

Since then, the Bureau of Land Management has allowed bidding on leases for oil exploration. But some Democratic members of congress have indicated they would like to see the ban restored.

The moratorium on offshore oil drilling “will be reinstated,” Inslee told CNSNews.com, but he did not specify whether he meant the executive branch moratorium or the one from the Interior Department.

I invested in motorcycles in 4Q 2008. The Yamaha XT250 and TW200 are both capable of 73+ MPG. The Suzuki DR650SE and Piaggio BV500 are both 55 MPG vehicles. The Yamaha Roadliner manages 42.5 MPG. My best 4x4 with capability to haul 5 people is the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. It turns in around 27 MPG. We can survive the high gas prices. I'm not happy about the prospect, but there is little that can be done about it.

Confusing T. Friedman and "intellectual" is an error. He's an irritating bonehead with access to a regular column. The only thing less informative is Obama speaking without a teleprompter.

All these people against drilling on the pacific shelf should ask themselves what terrible things has drilling in the Gulf Of Mexico done to the ecosystem or economies of the gulf states?

It's been horrible. My state has a $10.7 billion surplus. I guess that makes us un-American now.

Yes!but the democrats say they are so concerned about America's Energy Independence. What a load of B.S.They are against Nuclear Power,Coal Power,Wind Power,Petroleum Fired Power Plants and Solar Power.

Just listen to their statements. No Wind Powered Turbines off the Kennedy Compound even though its well over the horizon and out of site.

No Solar Plants in the California desert. My God it my disturb the desert environment.

The only energy the democrats like is energy imported and produced overseas. Their a bunch of Hypocrites because they believe its better to destroy the environment in a foreign country then to do it here in the U.S.

Lots of 401K and retirement funds are invested in the oil companies. Obama is destroying the retirement investments of all those people.

No truer words were ever spoken. As you know, obama believes in trickle up theory so he does not believe taxing to give to the poor hurts anybody.

Last time I looked Chevron and Exxon were doing okay in stock prices. It is the small companies hit the hardest. And the energy companies who do not drill and buy all their oil. Even Halliburton was having some problems.

Nobody I know in oil or energy voted for obama. Maybe a few of the retailers because a lot of them are foreigners. Some of the retailers believed obama would increase their profit margins when he taxed the oil companies. For the most part oil people are good ol' boys and conservatives.

The handwriting was on the wall last year when Maxine Waters said we can nationalize you. When the bailout had a provision to tax oil companies. When Hillary and obama said they would take windfall profits from oil companies for social entitlements. True to what was thought to happen, the stimulus, omnibus and 2010 budget all are heavy taxes to oil companies. This along with lower demand and you have a distressed fiscal outlook.

Since 2006, oil companies were the democrats whipping boys they would call on the carpet to deflect whatever they were or weren't doing. Today you can be happy your company was one to be called in by congress because it means you will probably keep your job. i.e Exxon and Chevron. Big targets for the democrats. They wanted their profits. Even though government made more profit than the oil companies did through taxes.

Democrats made stimulus policy, now the bailouts are the target. Democrats created the freely loan money to those who can't qualify, now the taxpayers pay for their ignorant mess.

Oil and energy companies are not going away as obama wishes. obama and the dems are not doing the clean energy companies for the good of the people. The need for oil will come back bigger than ever when we get someone in office who cares more for the people and corporations than their agenda. Meanwhile, the layoffs will destroy some lives. I do want to be clear that supply and demand is a part of the lowered expectations. You would think it would be a time for obama to back off.

As obama is repeating over and over we need oil independence from foreign countries, what he means is continuing funding of those countries through oil purchasing is my goal. We could be independent, spend our money domestically on oil and energy, and balance our budget if we were allowed to get to our own resources. Instead sacrifice, taxing and destruction.

Luke, they cannot and WILL NOT answer those questions. GW is a hoax, they all know it, but it is needed as fact to perpetrate theft on the American citizens, as well as others world wide, in the form of Carbon Credits/Cap and Trade.

That is ALL this is about.

The statists that rule the planet know full well that drilling here and now would knock the economy right back where it belongs in a couple months time. They refuse to allow the economy to thrive.

"before the november election i had a bumper sticker: >dems won’t drill oil. just north of los angeles, in slow and go, a guy in $100,000+ mercedes pulls ahead of me on the right, and spits across the front of my car."

That is just further proof that money can't buy class!
