WASHINGTON -- For her own Women's History Month assignment, first lady Michelle Obama visited Anacostia High School, on the poor side of town, where on Thursday she surprised a group of students. One of her goals is to demystify the White House and make it more accessible to the people who live here.
Mrs. Obama told the youngsters she felt isolated from an institution in her own community when she was growing up and that she suspected they may view the White House and the Capitol the way she saw the University of Chicago as a young girl -- a place for other people. She shared her story of how she was taunted for talking "like a white girl."

I don’t know, depends on the context. But Mrs. Obama was just recounting something that was said to her.
I know there’s a double standard for what black people can say about white people and vice versa, but I think you’re taking this particular comment the wrong way.

She’s saying that black people look down on well-spoken blacks. In other words, she’s insulting both blacks and whites. Self-loathing woman.....

I agreee with you. I have no problem with this being part of our public dialogue. In fact, the more people talking about the “crab in a barrell” complex the better.

The press made lots of comments on it, and has been accused of getting it all wrong. People have asked many questions about what it really said, the main one perhaps being, “Are they saying street talk is as good as standard English?” This question is really too vague to be answered by reading the text; it’s the kind of question you can argue about for hours without bothering to figure out whether any two people mean the same thing by it.
But there are other, more specific, questions, of which I call your attention to three:
Are they really saying that Black English, or Ebonics, or whatever, is a separate language, and not one of the dozens of dialects of English?
Did they really say that it’s more suited than standard English to people of a certain race because of their genetics?

I kept reading it as “WALKING like a white girl”. I thought, no, she walks like a man. Any color.
She should do what Alicia Keys did. “Ms” Keys was raised as a proper speaker but became Ebonichick so she could get “cred” for her career. Now she just sounds damned ignorant, and did it on purpose.

Her comments demonstrate that the only racism she experienced came from the black community. She was taunted for not speaking ebonically. She felt that the student at the University were not interested in her.
As Michelle 0 discovered, however, she was NEVER discriminated against by white people, only black people. Of course she wants us to understand that whites are to blame for black racists.
