The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.
President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.
Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.
He bowled a 129, the president said.
"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.
It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.
When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.
"The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world."
Facing tough questions about the performance of his Treasury Secretary, $165 million in bonuses for AIG officials and anticipating a fight over his $3.55 trillion budget, the president has not had a particularly good week, and it's unlikely this will help matters.

May I suggest forty hours of community service among the retarded? I worked with retarded adults 30 years ago, and for twenty years or so, have become fond of saying that every single one of them is smarter than a Liberal.
And yet, unlike most smart-asses, Obama is not able to sit down on a pile of ice-cream and tell you what flavor it is.
Instead, he utters “Michelle.....is that you?”

We are upset because we have a hateful clod of a President, and that he seems to get away with things that would get any Republican into serious, career ending hot water.

Remember Trent Lott trying to say something nice about Strom Thurmon?
Combine his proclivity for spurting out words without thinking with not being able to make a joke that doesn’t insult someone else (of course never taking any ribbing himself) and you’ve got trouble, the typical arrogant narcissitic kind of Class A frat boy jerk.
As the brother of someone who had down syndrome I can honestly say Obama is a retarded man.
I share your deep concern. I am sickened by his off-hand “joke” about our special needs children and adults. Larry King had Tim Shriver on this evening and he pointed out the disconnect “normal” people have demonstrated with their emails to the Special Olympics Committee telling him to “get over it”. He, too, was disheartned. Zero speaks for those who maligned Sara Palin and her son. He shares their unkindness and ignorance.
Does anyone know if Maria Shriver has weighed in? And did she have anything to say when Palin’s son was being maligned?
And the funny things is, Obama is a better bowler than he is a president.
Obama, Irish Prime Minister teleprompter gaffe
Obama is a gaffe prone individual who needs a teleprompter 24/7, at least for all his waking hours and especially when he speaks in public. Today, Mark Levin had a little montage of Obama's speeches without the benefit of the electronic device. Also, Rush had a little montage of Sarah vs. Obama's deliberate put down of the Special Olympics participants.
