What was supposed to be legal lynching of AIG's Edward Liddy turns into huge defeat for Congress
New York Daily News ^ | March 18, 2009 | Michael Goodwin

We have met the enemy and it's the people who represent us. The blowhards and buffoons in Congress proved again Wednesday they are worse than useless.

Ronald Reagan's famous line that "government is the problem" kept going through my head as the AIG hearing demonstrated the dangers of Washington's role in the economy. The very people, Republicans and Democrats alike, who can't balance America's budget now claim the expertise to run banks, insurance companies and automakers.

If we let them, we're dumber than they are.

What was supposed to be a legal lynching of AIG boss Edward Liddy over the firm's bonus plan turned into a humiliating defeat for the lynch mob. Liddy came off as a smart straight shooter, a man who gave up retirement for $1 a year to rescue AIG so it wouldn't bring down the financial system.

He also proved himself a cut above those who aimed to make cheap headlines at his expense. I'd pay to see him question Congress on its role in the economic mess.

If dingy Harry isn’t revulsed and repulsed by Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi and by looking in the mirror, this little pissant bonus thing shouldn’t bother him at all.

I want to know what all Obama and Dodd got for sneaking that Amendment into the Stimulus Bill that allows AIG to get the Bonuses.

Surely the did not sell out for just 100K each. Glenn Beck pointed out that Goldman Sachs and others got Billions from AIG after we gave them bailout money.

How much did Obama and Dodd get from all of them?

How much did Obama and Dodd Get and When did they get it?

I read an essay, or maybe it was a book, several years ago that talked about what you would do if you set out to destroy the United States. It listed all sorts of actions that would make many of the very institutions, etc. that we depend on for the highest standard of living in the history of the world. They talked about things like education, defense, economics, law enforcement, so and so on. Turns out they were simply listing in one place, at one time, what we've (the Papal “We”, not you and me!) done to ourselves over the last six decades or so. It was an amazing revelation, at least to me.

You are oh so correct about what's happening to us now being nothing more than another terror attack. I don't see how we keep limping along, adding what I have always been told would be a fatal mistake after fatal mistake to the pile.

Something’s gotta give. Either we've all been lied to and misinformed all our lives and it's possible to run a nation on debt and inflation, or it's all going to come crashing down any day now.

“I sat there listening to Edward Liddy, hoping that he would ask the Lavender Inquisitor if he had “no shame” (or at least tell him to go to Hell... which he kinda, sorta started to do).”

Why would Liddy sit there and take that abuse? I believe he is also there for show and is in on the whole scam.

That’s part of the “smoke and screen”! By focusing on the mere $165 million bonuses; the billions given out is behind a screen not being questioned. What better way to keep the true issue hidden and obscure! Add to that the issue that the gooberment also mentioned creating another agency that would over see where the money is going. Sounds like another agency created so “they” have a means to once again get their little paws on even more tax money when “they” so choose. The puppet is screaming that the buck stops here-—sure it does! The Bilderburg crew must be very proud of their very well groomed puppet. Barney Franks, Pelosi, and a slew of others need to step down from their thrones and be held accountable for the actions they are creating to this country!

"By focusing on the mere $165 million bonuses; the billions given out is behind a screen not being questioned."

One of the reasons this 165 is soooo touchy is that Obama and Dodd got the largest campaign donations paid out by AIG.

Glenn Beck Pointed out that many firms like Goldman Sachs got billions from AIG after we paid AIG the Bailouts.

How much did Dodd and Obama and others get from all of those firms?

If links can be shown that they got large sums for each of those firms as well then its hard for the Dems to state "there is no there there!"

If the story becomes the Political Donations and a quid Pro Quo for Dodd and Obama and all those firms then people will get really outraged and we can stop this damn Bailout BS!

IMHO, all politicians at all levels, 0 included, who received campaign monies in 2008 from banks and auto makers and all other corporations receiving bailout cash, need to hand back every cent to the US Treasury or the general fund.

This needs more attention and LSM coverage.

They are easy targets. I apologize greatly to these folks, but they were set-up to become “useful idiots” of the regime.

Trillions of dollars are being frittered away to God only knows what ends. And that is the problem. NOBODY is telling us where or how our tax dollars are being spent, sent, or who it payed-off. Heck, recall even our congress critters were not permitted time to read the legislations. They themselves don't even know.

I hate these show trials the Democrats have created. Show trials, mock trials to haul executives in to “testify” under oath? Hello....they are infringing on an area of the courts or getting darn close to it. If they broke no laws then what is this quasi-hearing, mock trial supposed to be about?

It is about intimidation, power, control and circumventing the rule of law to take people to trial in the court of public opinion. This is very dangerous behavior on the part of our politicians.

When will these executives, exercise their Rights to ensure their own safety & protection.

Oil companies, energy companies, banks, insurance companies...they need to demand Congress by what right do they force companies, executives etc. to “testify.”

This is fascism.

Could be. I'm waiting for the day when someone is called to appear before Congress, and right there on C-SPAN they deliver a short, cogent form of John Galt's speech -- lay into those politicians and exhort people to rise up everywhere and say "Enough!"

But so far, everyone kind of seems "in on it" to some degree, and no one wants to be the next John Hancock.

If Liddy had been his name sake (G. Gordon), he would have given a Jack Bauer style answer to the Banking Queen. How I wish someone would just put one of these jokers in their place, just one time.

Yep! Perhaps the general public can keep getting to the “truth” of what’s going on and expose the real fraud, deceit and money hungry grubbers.

Thank you for sharing.

We are 300,000,000 against 535 crooks, and we sit around watching these 535 destroy our country. What is wrong with us? They could be made to be gone in less than a minute.

"On a similar note, is there any outrage over..."

The MSM is the ONLY determiner of "outrage." Do not attempt to usurp their authority.

Why not? It's not as if Zer0, Dodd etal invested their own billions. All they invested were strokes of the pen. 100K is a pretty good ROI.

True but realize that when you start tracing where all that AIG money went then find out that those firms ALSO donated millions to Obama and Dodd and Frank and Pelosi you have a story.

And that story is Quid Pro Quo. Now it may not get them thrown out of office but I am sure it will put the brakes on further bailouts to firms who have donated heavily to the Democrats, which is time well spent IMHO. I am tired of seeing Tax Dollars passed out like Candy to Kids at a Nambla Convention.

I agree with everything you're saying with the exception of ...I am sure it will put the brakes on further bailouts to firms who have donated heavily to the Democrats..."

The MSM will never question that, hence no outrage. see #35
