Nuclear option back on the table: Obama going after filibusters

And not on confirmations, either, but on legislation. Peter Orszag, Barack Obama’s budget director, says the White House won’t take off the table an option to push through its legislative agenda using the “reconciliation” process. It would keep Republicans from stopping bills on taxes, budgets, and global warming:

The White House budget director said Tuesday that the Obama administration may take advantage of a rarely used congressional rule that would strip Republicans of their filibuster power to get some controversial proposals through the Senate by simple majorities.

Peter Orszag told reporters that the White House would prefer not to use the “reconciliation” process, which allows measures to pass on simple majority votes, a tactic that’s being considered for global-warming and health-care proposals.

But he added that the rule has been used on controversial tax bills going back to Ronald Reagan. “We’re not taking it off the table,” he said.

This is no longer representative government, it is tyranny. These people must be stopped.

I hope I am wrong! I fear that some crazed hothead is going to get too upset and do something almost everyone would regret. I fear this is going to get very, very ugly!

Peter Orszag, Barack Obama’s budget director, says the White House won’t take off the table an option to push through its legislative agenda using the “reconciliation” process.

A couple thoughts:

1. Isn't Peter Orszag the young lady who stated a couple weeks ago that the economy was "fundamentally flawed" or "weak" or something like that?

2. Since when does Hussein get to put "on the table" anything to do with the legislative branch? Hasn't Hussein heard about the separation of powers?

I remember when the GOP senators were “agonizing” over whether to engage in this practice that many here pointed out that the rats would not scruple to use it if they had the power. And I remember many here saying the rats would never use it because of their high regard for Senate tradition and rules.

The rats play politics to the knife. One would think that after decades of seeing them do WHATEVER IT TAKES to ram their agendas down our throats that the opposition would have learned a lesson.

The Republican party isn’t called the “stupid party” for nothing.

If this happens I can’t wait to hear from the Senate Republicans that the Democrats just aren’t playing nice.

The Republicans should call the anointed one’s bluff on this. Let the DhimmiRats OWN the whole shootin’ match. It may te the ‘cure’ we need in order that a majority of folks finally wise up to the socialist agenda inherent in the progressive platform.

It’s time to take back the country.

Why do they need the nuclear option?

They already have Snowe, Collins, Spectre, and in a pinch, they could probably get a few others. All they need to do is add a few $million in pork as enticement.

I’d bet that the Democrats back away from this threat, but if they don’t, we’d better see John McCain in the forefront of this fight after his Gang of 14 nonsense in 2005.

Don’t count on this RINO to deliver for the GOP.

I wonder if they have learned their lesson yet?

The elites in the GOP want to 'get along' with th eDIHMs, and it costs us every time they do.

2010 should and will be a rude awakening for the RINOs who call themselves conservatives. IF we have candidates willing to tell the truth about the corruption and total disregard for the people, inherent in Washington. It's time to clean as many of these out as possible.

If that doesn't change, tar, feathers, pitchforks and torches is our next recourse.
