WASHINGTON — B.J. Penn, assistant secretary of the Navy for installations and environment, will serve as acting Navy secretary until a successor to Donald Winter is named.

Winter, who stepped down Friday, had agreed to stay on in the Obama administration until March 13, or until a replacement was found.

Penn began his career as a Naval aviator, according to the Navy Web site. He amassed more than 6,500 flight hours in 16 types of aircraft. He was EA-6B Pilot of the Year in 1972, according to the site. Thus far, the White House has not hinted who the nominee might be.

Thanks Gene. Sometimes it's sweet to be partly wrong...very sweet indeed.

PTL for releasing from his tormentors, an honorable man, a leader and respected officer who has put his life between ours and our enemies, both foreign and domestic.

It seems to be a race to the bottom. Whose appointments are more leftist GWB or Obama. Too close to call. Tell me the difference between Paulson and his protege, Gaitner. Obama will continue to appoint the same crew of Ivy League elitists leftists as did GWB.

Congressman Murtha was recently presented with the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award.
The award, granted by the Secretary of the Navy, is the highest form of public service recognition bestowed by the Department of the Navy for a non-employee.
It consists of a gold medal, miniature medal, lapel bar, rosette, and a certificate signed by the Secretary.
According to the Department, “nominations for this award will be limited to those extraordinary cases where individuals have demonstrated exceptionally outstanding service of substantial and long term benefit to the Navy, Marine Corps, or as Department of the Navy as a whole.”
Murtha was presented with the award in appreciation of his distinguished public service to the Department of the Navy. “I’m proud of the service and sacrifices our troops are making, and I’m honored to receive this distinguished award from the Navy,” said Murtha.

The most likely candidate will be someone who thinks the Navy needs to be gutted.

The candidate must also be riddled with tax problems and a whole raft of ethical/criminal deficits, but these must be effectively hidden from view to avoid being thrown under the bus. If you're not a skillful enough crook to hide your deficits, Barry doesn't want you on the team. Of course you could select from a candidate who has something in common with Rangel or William Jefferson. Those people are untouchable.

I would like to nominate Popeye the Sailor Man. I suspect he would be better than anyone the administration will nominate.

well, he fights to the finish...

Navy Secretary-Desginate Mabus Can Expect Smooth Sailing, Despite Messy Divorce

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2009/03/30/navy_secretary-desginate_mabus.html?wprss=44

Mabus

Century 2, Quatrain 62

Mabus plus tost alors mourra, viendra,
De gens & bestes vn horrible defaite:
Puis tout à coup la vengeance on verra,
Cent, main, faim quand courra la comete.

Mabus then will soon die, there will come
A horrible undoing of people and animals:
At once vengeance one will see vengeance,
One hundred hands, thirst, famine, when the comet will run.

Nostradamus’ Third Antichrist has yet to be positively identified. In contrast with his certainty about Napoleon and Hitler, Nostradamus is less clear who this third tyrant is. Perhaps this is an example of his prophetic myopia that enabled him to be clearest about events of local or European history. When contemplating future events in more distant lands, the prophet’s vision tends to be cloudier. What does come through clearly is the fact that this Third and final Antichrist is not a prominent European leader. He may even be a minor player in a future conflict, an insignificant terrorist such as Gavrilo Princip, the Serbian nationalist who assassinated Archduke Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo, triggering World War I.

The man we know as Mabus may be some obscure future terrorist who, if he is not identified and restrained in time, will trigger World War III and the extinction of civilization as we have known it.
