Lets objectively review what Roberts said in response to Orlys comments.
Orly explains that she has travelled a long way to see him. Then she asserts that there is corruption and criminal activity in the SCOTUS. Then she gives a summary of her case, which is pending on the SCOTUS docket.
Roberts thanks Orly, presumably for her questions/comments. (i.e. He is polite.) He acknowledges that he understands how important the issue is to her. (i.e. He expresses appreciation for her willingness to travel so far to see him.) He doesnt inflame the situation. (i.e. He doesnt acknowledge or respond to the claims of corruption.) He establishes trust by attempting to find common ground with her. (i.e. He offers to review any documentation she provides.) Then he sets a boundary with her and effectively ends the conversation. (i.e. He indicates that he cant discuss pending cases and thanks her again.)
Standard negotiation tactics to diffuse a potentially inflamatory situation! He was very perceptive and especially effective in addressing the issue under the circumstances.
Excellent Chief Justice material.
Unfortunately, I see nothing positive for Orly in that exchange.
QFT.
You are right. I heard he invited her out for ice cream. :P
