BOGGLED BAM
NY Post ^ | March 16, 2009 | Dick Morris and Eileen McGann

THE furor over the huge federal spending under President Oba- ma - a $1.75 trillion deficit, 13 percent - obscures an even more basic question: Does he know what he is doing?

That is, does he know how to do anything other than spend?

His stimulus package, of course, took no special ability: He left the details to Democrats in Congress. But his two other major initiatives - his banking- and mortgage-relief plans - are both flawed and unlikely to solve their respective problems.

Indeed, they're so wide of the mark as to prompt questions not of Obama's ideology but of his basic competence.

The bank-bailout plan seems to be largely stillborn. Having wished that the private sector would flock to invest in toxic assets if offered the right incentives, the Treasury secretary is still hoping. Crossing his fingers seems to have replaced effective policy in his planning.

To date, no massive infusion of private-sector capital seems in view and Washington is doing little more than writing checks to prop up the failing banks. That doesn't take a genius. But the difficult task of relieving the banks of toxic assets so they can rekindle the flow of loans seems to be beyond the ability of the president and his administration.

"Does he know what he is doing?"

Well, so far he strikes me as a knockoff of a typical buffoonish African Dictator, who slowly destroys his country while the rest of the world looks on, aghast.

In that regard, is there some sort of requirement that he actually knows what he is doing, or does the death and destruction just come naturally?

You're right, that's what he most resembles. Hitler and Stalin look positively intellectual and idealistic when compared to this guy., Bambi is just a thug who wants power. The problem is that while the rest of the world may be aghast, most Americans seem just fine with it.

Could it be that the administration simply can't figure out how to help these folks?

Yes, Dick, it could, because a real solution would be capitalist in nature and these folks are so Marxist to their cores that they only think in terms of bigger and bigger government.

First, I wonder what woke Dick Morris up? He’s been hammering this guy.

Second, Pres. Obama reminds me of the guy in high school who wanted the office of Student Council President in the worst way, for the sake of holding the office...and then ran it in the worst way.

He’s in love with the trappings of the office.

I love the last line.

“We’re stuck not only with a socialist but seemingly an incompetent one.”

Ouch! Put some ice on that.

Over at US News, link below, James Pethokoukis mentioned Obama’s reference to [”profit and earnings ratios,” mysterious metrics, one would assume, that are close cousins of price-earnings ratios.”]

Imagine the MSM headlines if GWB had made such a remark betraying his basic lack of understanding. Every day is a revelation.

And the comment about incompetent dictator . . . wow, it’s like living a bad Idi Amin movie.

First, I wonder what woke Dick Morris up?

Rush's salary woke him up. Political hacks go where the money is.

It is stunning and refreshing to see the number of recent editorials that question Obama’s competence.

While I don't expect the likes of Katie Couric and Chrissy Matthews to turn on Omaba, there has been a steady drip of negative coverage. It will take some time for that drip to make its way out into the general population, but once it does the result will be devastating to Obama.

It is tough to be an effective President with the label “incompetent”.
